Guest guest
We have just finished six months on the diet. Started out the diet with anything that was legal. He ate so much fruit that he developed Candida. I treated him for that. The probiotics from CP seemed to cause a problem so I quit that. On 2/22 we decided to do the intro. For three weeks all he ate was chicken, bananas and white grape juice. We switched the grape juice to pineapple juice. I have always been concerned about the phenols in the bananas. He takes No-Fenol with them. Last week I decided to try to add back in a raw fruit. I decided on pear thinking that would be the least of all evils. Well he loved them and sure enough, he got loose stools again. The only thing that has changed from being on the diet is his stools. I know that is a biggie because hopefully he's absorbing more foods and supplements. He very seldom ever has hard stools. They're usually soft but formed and always an orange color. He's now eating chicken, steak, meat sauce with (tomato juice, burger, carrots, onions, celery and red peppers), peas, cooked carrots, bananas, pear sauce for taking his supplements, pork rinds at school only, and a cookie made with cashew nut butter, one banana, eggs and baking soda. That's his diet now. I wish I could add raw fruits because he would love them. Yesterday for the first time he grabbed some baby carrots and ate four of them. I was expecting to see a problem with them but didn't. Two days ago I added back in 1/2 of the small scoop of CP. Last night I made yogurt and hope to introduce it tomorrow. He has not made any speech gains. He is still quite hyper. He stills does the aggressive little stims. I think this diet is good for him and I'm sure I will continue. I'm just wondering what I could do to see any of the great gains many of you are seeing. Is it still too soon and does he need much more time to heal? I'm just disappointed that so far this hasn't been the great answer that I thought he would be. I would appreciate any thoughts you may have. Thanks Penny Kenzie 7 y.o. I think you should be very proud of what you've done with his diet, look at what he's eating now!! Fabulous :-) I also want you to know that we have not seen the gains that many have seen from using SCD and to know that you aren't alone. Zach is doing very well, but on the whole not because of SCD. I am now looking at other dietary options for him because I believe he falls into the category of putrefaction/deficiency dysbiosis and not fermentation (i.e. yeasty kids) dysbiosis. I know Kenzie has had problems w/ yeast and, because of the infractions he's had on and off for the time he's been SCD and his age, it probably will take longer to see gains. Or, SCD will help heal his gut, in time, so that other supplements, etc can help him reach those next milestones when maybe they weren't able to work before. Waiting and watching is one of the hardest parts of this journey. I hope with the upcoming DAN and Autism One conferences and SCD being brought in as a more mainstream diet for ASD kids, some of the good docs will be able to advise parents on the reasons why SCD may or may not work for their child and other options to try after this point. SCD is such a wonderful diet for so many kids, but not for all. Or just in a very subtle way. If all you get is good poop, that is enough to keep going in my book :-) Good luck, Thea, Zach's mom, 37 months, SCD 8 months

" PENNY! PENNY! PENNY! Can't you see how far you've come? Isn't this the kid who would only eat pork rinds? In a few weeks of strict SCD, you've broadened his food choices enormously. He eats more variety than does after more than a year. I'm very interested to see how the yogurt goes for you. Sue (From Pickering) Mom to , 4.5, formerly?
