Following is more information received from my niece who is a physician

(geneticist) regarding genes and IgaN.

Jack (NY)

A site I use very often for genetics work is called OMIM.  it has a

summary of genetic info on IgA nephr at:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/htbin-post/Omim/dispmim?161950.

McKusick, who edits the site, just summarizes pertinent articles with little

other explanation.  He does mention some recent work on trying to find a gene

associated with the disease, but it seems none has yet been found.  There

could be different genes acting in different patients/families.  It seems to me

that it is similar to some of the autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid

arthritis for which there could be a familial increased risk but no clear cut

familial inheritance pattern.  Hope we learn more about this in the near future,

especially for treatment purposes.  (btw - I don't know anything about using a

gluten free diet for this, and the fact that he only mentioned one article

discussing it makes me think it wasn't pursued by a lot of other researchers.)

we should keep looking at the genetic sites periodically since things change

so quickly in this field!
