Honestly that is quite high for a two hour post meal reading. Gneraly the

ultimate goal is to be 140 or under two hours after eating (some like even

better control of 120 or less)!

I highly recommend speaking to a dietician if you haven't already and at

least keep a food diary for a few days. Try to see what you are eating to have

such high readings. Such as this 277 reading you had....what did you eat?

There are just certain foods you don't have to avoid but learn to eat in

moderation!

For example, if i eat an entire box of mac and cheese i'd probably have a

similiar number but i know enough to only have about half a cup to stay under my

140 goal!

Hi all,

My email session I logged into at work timed out, so I don't know if my message

'sent' after I logged back in, so I am re-sending it again. Please forgive me

if it ends up duplicated. Here it is again ...

--------------------

I'm 99.999% a reader-only here, and rarely post .... but I've been diabetic long

enough, and on this list long enough, I should know the answer to a couple of

questions I have. Let me preface my questions with a few comments:

Ideally, we could say our BGs (for a diabetic) should be at most around, say,

between 110 and 130 or a bit more (90 to 100 is excellent but not easily

obtainable for many of us). However, this is a more generalized figure.

To be more specific, we all know BGs are going to be significantly higher in two

main situations: 1.) Following our early morning " sugar dump " , courtesy of our

wonderful livers, and 2.) An hour or two after a meal.

As for myself, just about any full meal (as opposed to a small snack) that I eat

almost always puts me *at least* into the high 100's (minimum 180-190) to mid

200s, depending on what I eat. Other times, long after a meal, or following

daytime fasting, I am usually around 110 to 130 or so, and often I dip down to

110 or even 90s.

That said, my multi-part question is: While a reading of, say, 110-120 is " good "

for most parts of a day, what " high " reading is considered normal for the two

situations I mentioned above ?

For example, awhile ago today, my BG was 277 following a late morning brunch.

Well, none of us want readings like that around the clock -- but is it

acceptable _for that situation_ ... given that I had eaten a meal an hour or so

before ? Or would that be considered unacceptably high no matter what ?

And along the same lines, what is considered an " acceptable " (perhaps read

" unavoidable " ) BG reading during the " morning liver dump " period ?

Well, I hope it's clear what I'm getting at here. Thanks to anyone bearing with

me through my ramblings, and perhaps having some helpful comments ...

I was told by doc that anything below 140 two hours after eating was great.

160 and below is okay.

Anything higher two hours after eating is too high.

He wants me below 130 in a.m. prefers 120 or less.

That is just my doc.

And we'll see, since I just started with him.

Good luck. You want to keep bgs as low as can below 200 cause above that you

can start complications.

As my doc says, but see what yours has to say...each person does what they

can.

My doctor recently advised my bg's should be no higher than 140 before I

eat in the morning (preferably a good deal lower) and no higher than 180 two

hours after eating, including end of day just before bed.

I was having a problem where they were frequently in the lower to mid 200's.

My doctor added Avandia to my existing metformin and its been 180 or below

ever since two hours after eating.
