Guest guest
Hi , Good for you for making that list. Lots of times when I walk into the neph's office I get this medically induced amnesia and forget what I wanted to ask about. However, at 20, I'm sure you don't suffer from the same mind rot that hits me! Whether you should ask for a biopsy depends upon a bunch of things - not the least of which is whether you feel up to it. Given your lab numbers and your neph's overall philosophy, he might take a " watching waiting " approach or he might be inclined to do the biopsy. Personally, I would want to know. My hunch is that your neph will also if your labs aren't improving. As you know, IgAN is relatively common as kidney diseases go. However, there's a chance that it might be something else. A biopsy report will give you lots more information that is useful in determining prognosis. For example, the presence of a crescents in the biopsy is associated with a more rapidly progressing disease. Once you have that information, you can move on to making educated guesses about your NOT STUPID QUESTION (this goes go through everyone's mind!) about how long it will take before you hit end stage kidney disease. Sorry I can't be more specific. The lack of knowing prior to biopsy can drive you a little nuts. If you have any questions about biopsies, don't hesitate to ask. I'm sure you'll get good feedback from everyone here. Guest guest
Stuart, I am 22 and am at around 50% function right now. My neph. has made it pretty clear that eventually I might get to dialysis or I might not. More than likely I will some day. It used to drive me nuts, and scare me to death to think about dialysis since I am so young, but there's really nothing you can do about it when it does come. Eventually you won't think about it so much. It rarely crosses my mind anymore. How fast you might need it depends on the rest of your test results. If you just can't stand it, ask your neph. what he thinks about you needing dialysis. He probably won't give you an exact year, but might ease your mind. Jen biopsy I am going for my second Nephrologist appointment next week I am wondering if I should be asking for him to do a biopsy if the blood and 24 hour urine test, and renogram dont give a good idea of what is causing or what type of kidney disease I have. I am wondering if there are any questions I should be asking my nephrologist about what is going on with the kidney. I have gotten a few questions from posts already and have started a list. I know that this is probobably a stupid question to ask but since I am only 20 with 90% kidney function how long would will it take for me to have to start about thinking about things like dialysis or transplant. I have found this site very infomative and if anyone else has been recently diagnosed feel free to email me we are probably having the same thoughts and feelings. Sincerely Stuart Rexworthy
Guest guest
You trying to give me nightmares? Þ You know, last night I dreamt I had permanent gross haematuria ....it was a horrible dream I wouldn't pee in work in case anyone came in and pee'd at the same time! Weird or what? I think it's a psychological thing lol Re: Re: Biopsy > Yeah - and they have to do them in a certain order too - you can't do the grey first for some reason about potassium or summat - I can't remember, I was only half listening to her telling a student, I just didn't want to see that stuff come out of my veins!!!! ) > To edit your settings for the group, go to our Yahoo Group home page: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/iga-nephropathy/ To unsubcribe via email, iga-nephropathy-unsubscribe Visit our companion website at www.igan.ca.
