Guest guest
Laverne, If you are interested in a buddy, I love to join you.. I think it would be most helpful and interesting to know what works for me and what doesnt... Hard but good learning curv, so if you gain, deal me in mate! Cheers Kerry from Australia! > Kirstie, > I am seriously thinking of trying the elimination diet, however I have a question for you. If I chose pork to be my first food could I have bacon for breakfast , pork chop for lunch then pork roast for dinner or do I have to stay with all the same kind of pork? > Laverne
Guest guest
I agree with you wholeheartedly, Terry. That said, I have been bouncing the SAME 5 pounds since about last October. And that is a LONG time. I'm not looking for a " quick fix " but rather looking to determine if there is a specific food (or set of foods) that is causing me problems. I've gone 6 weeks with *no cheating*, staying below 25 carbs a day and still bouncing. I've already given up cream and protein shakes (along with a whole host of other items). If the Elimination Diet aids in my detection of even ONE food, I will be happy... without even losing a single pound! Thanks! -Marlena > >Reply-To: Atkins_Support_List >To: <Atkins_Support_List > >Subject: Elimination Diet >Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 11:35:10 -0500 > >Ladies, > >I feel compelled to jump in here and say a few words about the Elimination >Diet that a few have been experimenting with lately. Guest guest
Marlena, I think the elimination diet is exactly what is called for in situations like yours. You've had no loss of inches or pounds and no cheating for months. Yet something is causing you to bounce inexplicably up and down 5 pounds. The elimination diet IS designed to help people discover problem foods insituations like this. I know it isn't easy, and I'm so glad I don't have to try to do it. I sure do wish you good success, though! Terry
Guest guest
I couldn't have said that better Terry. In fact, as the testing progresses, weight loss may be very slow because each intolerance food encountered will cause a spike in weight, additionally, each time a return to normal low-carb eating happens (and it will frequently - breaks need to be taken), a slight gain usually occurs. This is not some fast track to weight loss, but it is a wonderful tool for somebody suspecting an intolerance. It is also incredibly hard to stick with, especially for the first few weeks until a good base of 'safe foods' has been built up. Who do I think might benefit by trying it? If the scales are bouncing up and down for no apparent reason, it could be a sign of an intolerance. But make sure that you don't count bounces that happen due to varying amounts of water intake, monthly hormonal changes, fluctuating salt intake, or cheats. If you can look back at the previous day and say 'there is no reason why my weight should have bounced', it could be an intolerance. If your weight is bouncing, but you keep bouncing downwards and are losing 1+ pounds a week, I wouldn't bother doing the elimination diet. It's not going to do any better for you in the short term at least and it wouldn't be worth the deprivation of only being able to eat from a restricted food list devoid of all the good spices (it makes my hubby shudder just thinking about how boring my food is with only salt as a seasoning - he keeps pushing me to test some spice mixes). If you're being perfect for 2 months and just bouncing around, you might be a good candidate. Anybody contemplating starting it should read the original Texas Elimination Diet and make sure they truly understand the rules and restrictions. http://www.lowcarb.org/elim1.html That being said, if you do want to take a crack at it, I'd be happy to give some guidance Kirstie
Guest guest
Thanks for the support, Terry. It's not like I'm looking forward to it that's for sure. I just feel like there's something I am just " not getting " and it's doin me in :-( Also, I'm tired of removing things from this WOE only to discover it makes not a shred of difference. Oh sure, I have LOST weight over these last 5-6 months but with all the bouncing I am losing the same weight over and over and over and over and well you get my point. It's like my daily weight fluctuations are down, down, hold, up a little, up a little, down, hold up a lot, down a little, hold, up a little... etc. Again, I am not looking forward to doing the Elimination Diet... but I am looking forward to learning what just does NOT work for my body. Thanks again for the support. -Marlena > >Reply-To: Atkins_Support_List >To: <Atkins_Support_List > >Subject: Re: Elimination Diet >Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 11:59:00 -0500 > >Marlena, > >I think the elimination diet is exactly what is called for in situations >like yours. Guest guest
Okay, let me see if I got this right.. It is not recommend to do the elimination testing unless I am stalling or on plateau.. It would be unwise for me to do while I going fine; losing. I would have thought if I could establish what foods dont work for me, I could stay away from them and have a more cruiser trip.. I have over 130 pounds to lose! Speed is not my main concern but achievement and success is!,,, I want to be eating the right food that will get me to the end of my journey once and all! I think I need to rethink this.. Kerry from Oz 94124120 kma540@... --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
