Guest guest
Hi Nefertiti, Fruits raise the blood sugars and some worse than others. Bananas for example is a bad one. In this case bananas should be only consumed half of a small banana at a serving. Most fruits should be eaten in small amounts. Different fruits also have different glycemic index levels making them more healthy to eat. Ask your dietician for more information on amounts and glycemic index levels on the different fruits. Guest guest
Hello Nefertiti, I first heard this from who used to manage this list (and he may have started this list, but I don't know for sure), but he said this and I have thought about it often, that you can do perfectly fine without eating fruit at all. He said that any vitamins or minerals found in fruits can be found in vegetables. I have not sought to prove or disprove this, but I do tend to eat a little less fruit in favor of increasing my intake of vegetables. One really should find out which vegetables have the vitamins and minerals one would normally have gotten from fruit, but I have not done that. I know this doesn't answer your question, but perhaps it's worth considering since fruits indeed raise blood sugar levels much more significantly than vegetables. Guest guest
Fruit is high in fructose, which breaks down to glucose. Some fruits have more per ounce than others and some have mor fiber than others, which make have a ower glycemic index, but you rwould do best by asking your dietician. Guest guest
I do know that fruits have potassium, and we do need potassium in our diets. Back in the early 1980's, I went on the Nutrisystem program. Back in those days you couldn't just buy their food online or by making a phone call. You had to go to weekly weigh ins and support meetings along with buying the food. Their plan allowed absolutely no fruit, but they did give you a prescription for potassium pills to make up for the lack of fruit. Potassium seems to regulate blood pressure, and mine was kept nice and low during that time.
