An interesting tid bit on computers, light and melatonin

I thought this to be an interesting tid bit....

It's a tip from the "Dummies" series of books. I happen to have my monitors adjusted so that they aren't real brite and usually have no other lights on in the room unless actually need them to do something. Reducing available light and lowering the temperature are both triggers for encouraging melatonin production and sleep.

If you suffer from insomnia, don't use your computer in the late evening, because it worsens your inability to sleep. When you look at the computer screen for extended periods, you're essentially looking straight at light. This light tricks your brain into adjusting to a daytime pattern because it suppresses your pineal gland's ability to secrete melatonin, which is needed to be able to go to sleep.

That's because your rhythm is off..... once your body adjusts back to normal and your adrenals are on the right track Morning becomes the best time...

Our normal rhythm (for diurnal mammals) is to be most productive in the morning with the sunrise and tapering off as the day lengthens. As darkness builds and temperatures fall melatonin levels increase and we curl up to sleep through the dark hours to wake again in the morning to start a new day.
