I would definitely encourage you to try either one of them. I have done

Kickboxing with videos and it was pretty fun. Our family started Tae

Kwon Do at our local Do Jong three months ago and we love it! My husband

is almost 40, I'm 31, (neither of us are in that great of shape) and our

daughter is 5, and we all think it's great! We ended up signing up for

the next three years so we could all get our black belts. I was a bit

intimidated at first and so we started out with a three week trial

period and decided if we didn't like it we could always quit. I was

hooked the first day! I came home totally exhausted but feeling great.

It's always fun because you are always learning something new and it

isn't just the same old routine over and over again. I would really

encourage you to try it. We have people in our classes that range in age

from 4 to 60 and some are healthy and really slim and some of us still

have a ways to go :o) I know at least one gal in the advanced classes is

probably close to 300 pounds and she has made it through at least four

belts already. I have no idea how big she was when she started but she's

obviously doing well and enjoying herself cause she keeps coming back

every week. Everyone just comes and does their best and it isn't at all

intimidating. It's rather like going to your first WW meeting...the

hardest part is working up the nerve to walk through the door. :o)

Ideas for Aerobic Work-Out

All,

So far my work out routine consists of treadmill,

bicycling (when the weather's good), and the occasional racquetball

game. I'd like to find an additional option, to vary the routine. Any

suggestions?

The township is offering intro. kickboxing and Tae kwon Do, but I

feel a bit intimidated by these? Any body with experinece? Other ideas?

Best,

Mitch

Tae kwon Do,

My Dh and I to Tae kwon Do classes and never broke a sweat, I think in

competition you would, but we never competed. The classes really helped us with

flexiblity and balance, but as for a 'workout' it was not that for us.

Kickboxing sounds like fun! I would go and just check it out and see what it is

all about, I personally REALLY like Blanks Tae Bo (sp?) I have 2 of his

tapes, the jumping around is a bit much for me as I have trouble moving my

arms/legs in sync....lol....how I ever drove a 5 speed with manual steering I

will NEVER know....lol......

Good luck with whatever you try.

Are you sure it was Tae Kwon Do and not Tai Chi? Man at our Do Jange

they have you sweating in the first five minutes. We start out with

jumping jacks and then run ten laps around the gym. After that we

stretch for a few minutes, catch our breath a bit while stretching, and

then get a major workout. We run laps sideways, backwards, and then run

and jump about every ten seconds. We always start with aerobic type

exercises and then move to kicking and punching techniques and you don't

stand still for more than ten seconds except when we are stretching.

I was wondering that same thing, Kris. My sister in law does Tae Kwon Do

and it is an AMAZING aerobic workout.

Yep it was Tae Kwon Do, just asked Dh and he said no running laps or jumping

jacks. We did tons of stretching and learning the punches/kicks. We went long

enough to have the ceremony where we break the board. And all that stuff. Now

the higher belt people where really moving as they kicked/punched, but our group

of like 10 was not doing any of that, and we were all able bodied people. I

miss taking it, but it cost a lot of $$ to go.

Huh, maybe they didn't want to over work people that were just starting

out? Who knows? Different gym different rules I suppose. I know after

the first three classes I took I came home, stripped off my uniform, and

fell face first onto the bed and just laid there and waited till my legs

stopped shaking! :o) It is expensive though. And we have to pay every

time we take a test for the next belt level.

I love doing Tae-Bo, my gym has a 45 minute class once a week and it is a

great workout and so much fun, I also have the Banks tapes that are

awesome.
