I know I am not Tory, but I do have some pointers for a trip to Disney.

being that we live only 3 hours away and we have annual passes we go all the

time. Our day usually consists of this plan. We get up and eat breakfast

in the hotel room before we go to the park. I take snacks to the park and

buy lots of water while there. Because we like to be at the park at night,

we leave during the afternoon and go back to the hotel and rest, the kids

usually play in the pool or even take a nap. We eat lunch at Chick Fil A or

Subway, or the kids get Mcs and then go back to the park in the late

afternoon and have dinner there. You can do it, but you have to plan. Also

everything at Disney is extremely expensive and it is better to take snacks

and stuff. Our kids are given a certain amount of money per day and they

can spend it however they want. My 5 year old will usually hit the gift

shop immediately and buy a stuffed animal and our 9 year old saves his

throughout the whole trip and evaluate what he wants to purchase and then

gets it right before we go back home. Maybe because we go there so

frequently they ice cream and snack stuff at every corner doesn't impress

them. But if you do have kids, it is such a great idea to leave during the

day and then go back. Are you visiting all the Disney parks? We love the

Magic Kingdom and in the summer hit the water parks. I hope this helps. If

you have any questions about Orlando feel free to ask me off list. There

are also tons of great resturants that we plan to go to during our trips.

It is all about planning!!!

-- Hi Tory..question.

Hi Tory, I know from your posts that you and your husband are huge

fans of Disney World. We are taking our family vavation there next

month, the first time for all of us!!!!I am really looking forward to

it. But what I am concerned about is, is it going to be difficult to

stay OP. I have no idea what the food choices are like. Any

suggestions/pointers you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot

AND.. bring your own bottles of water. You should be able to refill them at

the drinking fountains. If you really plan ahead, you can get insulated

water bottle bags (with an empty bottle) that have shoulder straps at

Walmart, Target or Kmart. VERY handy!! (Or, I guess.. I've seen fanny packs

with water bottle holders too.)

I went to Disney with the family I nannied for (a long time ago). It was a

blast!! I'd love to go again without kids. :D Maybe that will be my long

term goal reward. Hmmmm.... that's an idea......

, My BF and I go quite often without the kids. It is fun without

them, but I enjoy it far greater with them, it is a whole different place

when you see it through a childs eyes. When we plan to go alone we like to

go to Universal Islands of Adventure, they have awesome roller coasters and

we can have more fun there without the kids. And we can do the " night life

when we don't have them. Those are our Margaritaville nights!!!

Yeah, that's true.. I would love to go with my brother's kids (two 14 year

old girls (step sisters), 12 year old girl, 10 year old boy and 8 year old

girl). When I went before, it was with a toddler at 2. Although he DID

love the King Kong ride at MGM Studios. He was crying that we had to leave

the ride. A worker asked if he had gotten frightened. We told him that no,

he didn't want to leave. The worker brought us back in, bypassing everyone

waiting in line so that we could go on the ride again!!

When we went to Disney, the people I nannied for worked (still do I think)

for AT & T - and they had all of those perks like getting to the front of

lines, we got in early (and free) and a few other things (like staying in

one of the hotels right there).

So, I agree.. going with kids who are older than the toddler stage WOULD be

a lot of fun. :D

This is totally off topic about WW.....lol......but I just had to say this about

Disney, (I've never been there), but friends of ours went and their 2yr old got

really sick, they kept thinking he was just hot from the high temps, but they

stopped at a aid station and he had a very high fever, and those Disney people

treated them like royalty! Got them packed up on a shuttle drove them to a

Prompt Care type drs. office (the driver told them ahead of time that it would

cost more than $100 for the office visit and they only take a few insurance

plans-they ended up being covered by one of the plans) and found that he had

double ear infections, then they drove them to a pharmacy to get the RX, then on

the way back the boy started feeling a bit better and the driver gave them a

behind the scenes tour of Disney and took them back to their hotel. Those ear

infections could have really sunk their vacation and they were thousands of

miles away from home, but Disney took care of them and they also go new tickets

for the next day. And my friend told me she never once saw anyone not smiling

who worked in the park.

I know this was long and off topic, but I was thrilled when I had heard this as

I worked for 6Flags for a number of years and remember seeing kids sick within

an hour of being in the park and having spent all that money just to have to go

home.

Actually there is a webpage, let me see if I can find it...

Anyhow, we do Disneyland quite often and every few years wander on down

Florida way to Disneyworld.

It IS a challenge to eat on program during vacation, but not impossible!

Here is what I do:

1. Bring easy to pack, low point foods with me such as Pria Bars, rice

cakes, etc.

2. Find a grocery store as soon as I get there, even if I have to spend

some $$ on a cab. It's cheaper in the long run to have my own snacks and

food available both in $$ and points. I buy fresh fruits and veggies, a

styrofoam cooler (if there is no fridge in the hotel), diet sodas, light

bread, lunchmeat, mustard, etc. Then I can have at least one meal a day

in the room. Saves LOTS of $$ and allows me to save points for a nicer

meal later in the day.

3. There are fresh fruit carts around the park that I indulge in. It's

pricey, but their fruit is always exceptional quality. Also, they have

huge dill pickles, which are 0 points.

4. Stay hydrated by bringing a bottle in to fill with water.

5. I count and eat all my activity points. I wear a pedometer so that I

know how many miles I've walked in a day. If I can, I walk. When we were

in Vegas we walked from the Excalibur (one end of the strip) to Fremont

(the other end) and enjoyed it!

6. Work out in the hotel gym at the beginning of the day before going to

the park.

7. Don't let myself get over-hungry or over-tired.

8. Split entrees with my husband.

Fortunately Disneyworld has a lot of different restaurants so you'll

probably have an easier time of it than at Disneyland. There are some

amazing ones in World Showcase! What I try to do is have something very

small for breakfast...coffee and a pria bar. I try to wait as late in

the morning as I can to eat it so that I'm okay until lunch.

For lunch I try to eat pretty light: salad with dressing on the side,

Subway (there is one near Disneyland), etc. Then I go for a nice meal in

the evening (or switch and have the nice meal for lunch and light in the

evening). I carry in carrot sticks and fruit with me. They let you do

that now. I drink a LOT of water and diet sodas because you get hot in

that sun and walking!

I do not use vacation as an excuse to go off program, but I do try my

best to have fun while and not stress too much (since I can't know for

sure what is in everything I eat). I do eat all Aps because I'm earning

a lot more in a day than normal because the entire day is walking.

Normally I don't eat my Aps. I have found doing this that I've only

gained 1 pound 1 time and that pound was gone with 3 of its friends by

the end of the next week.

There are some websites where you can ask people for ideas for healthy

eating.

www.laughingplace.com (discussion boards, oh and a lot of restaurant

reviews and often sample menus)

www.mouseplanet.com (discussion boards)

www.disneycentral.com (there is a WW discussion on their boards

somewhere)

Have a GREAT time!

This sounds like just " business as usual " for Disney. They are awesome.

They really know how to train their employees to treat you like a true

" guest. "

I just got off the phone with someone in Vacation Planning. We're going

to be staying at the Paradise Pier Hotel (Disneyland) in July and I

wanted to do something special for my husband to thank him for all of

the wonderful support and love he gave me during my surgeries and

recouperation. The guy was SO helpful, asked how I was doing and wished

me well, asked what our favorite characters are. He's putting together a

basket for Roy and getting autographed pics of the characters for us

both. It will be a surprise on our first day.

Say what you will about Disney, but they really do know how to treat

their guests!
