Try hopsice, they do wonders and often know how to handle these situations,

don't be afraid, question all you want, and keep a diary,we do and we list the

things we learn here, take from magazines and other sites. We will ask our

circle to add you to their prayers. Sometimes nausea meds make you have a

reaction.

We tried a sort of gatorade that was prescription and then coke syrup. It

worked

no two people are alike but you don't have to suffer for no reason. Did they

try

mineral oil enemas or they can't do that? I hope someone can help you both

don't be afraid to let others help it keeps your strength up so you can be

there

Best of luck Nick M

I agree with Narice about the IV fluids and the scans. You shouldn't

have to deal with the dehydration at home on your own. Maybe scans

would help to give some peace of mind to at least know something

about what is going on.

I also agree with Nick that you should not be afraid to seek support

if you need it. Hospice is a good suggestion. I am concerned about

your statement " They sent her home and said they couldn't do anything

more for her. They gave her 2-6 weeks to live, " since it sounds

like you were kind of abandoned to deal with things on your own. So

if you need support my suggestion would be to take some time to sort

out what you need to and check out your options.

And I agree - don't give up until you have the answers you are

looking for.

I wish you all the best. Keep us posted.

My husband has the same situation (admittedly, I couldn't read

everything you have written as he is going to be operated on

tomorrow and I am exhausted).-

This sounds strange to me. The blockage your mom has could be due

to adhesions, which can be broken up. I am wondering if they know

if the blockage is due to adhesions or tumor. If it is adhesions,

the prognosis is a lot better for getting her relief and maybe

buying her a little more time.

I hope you get another opinion.

Best regards,

Jane

How are adhesions broken up? They have a pill for that? She seems

to be able to keep her Protonix down and she still has fluid coming

through her stoma. The doctors agree that she may only have a

partial blockage. And since she hasn't had anything solid to eat in

about 8 weeks she wouldn't be getting anything but liquid out there.

Is there anywhere on line I can read more about adhesions? Is that

the same as scar tissue. They thought that could be it too since

they think it maybe in the same area as where she had her resection

a year ago in August.

Thanks for the info.

No. They were giving her just warm water enemas. What is the

mineral oil supposed to do that the water wouldn't? We've stopped

the enemas since they were suggesting that nothing else was going to

do her any good.

Thanks for suggestion.

I would also recommend looking into Hospice like others have

suggested. Keep in mind, that if your mom does sign on with Hospice,

she can always be discharged. My mom has signed on with Hospice, and

they have been very good, both for my mom and the rest of the family

as well. They are very open about allowing you to be discharged if

you find a curative treatment you want to pursue.

Best of luck to you and your family,

Rob

The problem with that suggestion is that my mother is 71 years old.

And she had a tough enough time coming out of her last surgery a

year ago. The surgeon said he could do another surgery, but that

she would probably be in the hospital for six weeks, if she even

survived the surgery. Then she could just have this problem again.

They offered a nose tube to relieve the pressure. But she has had

problems with having that in the past and refused. They even

suggested a stomach tube to drain her stomach, but she refused that

too. Her mother suffered from things they tried to do to keep her

alive. She doesn't want the same happening to her too.

Right now she isn't having any pain. If she prolongs things, she

could end up having pain. And her quality of life wouldn't exactly

be good trying to gain more time.

I was thinking tonight that going to heaven would be better than

seeing her go through anymore of this. She is so worried she will

choke and has been close several times already.

I actual felt sick tonight watching her. All I can do is sit by and

watch. It is painful. Everyone who comes by says I'm doing a great

job taking care of her. But I don't feel anything I do is enough.

I love her so much, it's so hard to see her going through this and

not be able to do anything to stop it.

I've been dealing with it by keeping myself too busy to think about

it. I don't want to morn while she is alive. I'm trying to keep

her up and me too. But it is so hard. I just pray God will have

mercy and take her home to heaven soon. Anything is better than

seeing her go through this.

On the other hand, God has really blessed us. Mom isn't in pain.

That is something to really be thankful for.

Thanks for the support. Please pray God will help her. And soon.

They operate and break up adhesions. It would seem worth a try.

My heart goes out to you. Prayers for you both. I do hope that you

find an answer to deal with the choking somehow so that she does not

have to suffer any longer.
