Guest guest
I'm thinking very seriously about trying the elimination diet. I would do it this week but we will be going out of town this coming weekend so I will probably start sometime NEXT week. -Marlena > >Reply-To: Atkins_Support_List >To: Atkins_Support_List >Subject: Re: elimination diet >Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 02:49:56 -0000 > >Laverne, > If you are interested in a buddy, I love to join you.. Guest guest
I don't want to hold you guys up if you're full of enthusiasm and gusto. That said, however, if the three (or more?) of us DID wait until *next week*, that would be so awesome!! -Marlena >From: ecenet@... >Reply-To: Atkins_Support_List >To: Atkins_Support_List >Subject: Re: Re: elimination diet >Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 08:37:04 -0600 (CST) > >Sounds good to me kerry. Guest guest
Thanks Laverne, we are really looking forward to this even if it is only for 3 days. We're very fortunate in that we do quite a bit of traveling and have been to many places. -Marlena >From: ecenet@... >Reply-To: Atkins_Support_List >To: Atkins_Support_List >Subject: Re: Re: elimination diet >Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 09:35:55 -0600 (CST) > >Bermuda!!!! Guest guest
Wow Kirstie you really have will power. Now I'm alittle confused . Should I try the elimination diet or not. I don't want to upset my metabolism but that darn scale just keeps bouncing around. This morning I was down 1/2lb. Since I was sick I have gone up two lbs and they are just hanging on. I am getting very discusted about it. Yesterday I went for a 20 min walk. Today I will do the same and see if that is whats helping. Kirstie do you think I should try the elimination diet or not? I really don't have any bloating problems when I eat. What are the other signs of food allergies. Laverne

Guest guest
While knowing what foods don't work for you is a wonderful tool Kerry, there are some things you can try before going to the extremes of the elimination diet. Keeping a food diary can be incredibly useful. You can analyze patterns of change in your diet and when you do have weeks of wonderful loss, you can try and replicate those menus. Many intolerances can be determined by making use of a food diary - as you try new foods such as Atkins bars, you'll be able to see if your loss slows down or not. Traditional stall busters have you eliminate the suspected problem food for a week or two to see if your loss improves. This is at the other end from the Texas Elimination Diet where you basically eliminate ALL foods and then start adding them back in one by one. This is an extreme measure and the limitations it imposes on daily eating are simply too rigorous to recommend unless you've already tried other techniques. I currently have a safe food list of about 20 items, but I still have difficulty eating out at a restaurant and I can't eat what the rest of the family is eating because I can't have their spices and they won't stand to eat my pot roast that is completely without flavour. If you would really like to try the elimination diet, it is a wonderful tool. It's just sort of akin to using a jackhammer to drive in a nail when a hammer might do just as well - some tools are more suited to a task than others and this one has some fairly unpleasant side effects that may just not be worth it such as the boredom of the menu. Why cut out all the flavour in your life on the off-chance that one or more of the ingredients may be a problem for you. Better to try eliminating specific items first.(i.e. in a food journal you may notice that everytime you make shrimp with hot peppers and garlic that you gain a pound the next day - maybe you experiment with adding and removing each of those ingredients from your daily eating and see if you can isolate the problem). It will be months before I can possibly test all the foods I used to enjoy - which is why I go through periods of not eating from my safe food list even though I know my weight will probably bounce up again. Anways.. the decision is yours, it's just not something to enter into lightly. Read the website about the Texas Elimination Diet and see if it appeals to you or not.
