I'd hold off until the next test, to make sure that they can see what is going on....

I definitely want to see your test results. If you've had RAI and there is still growth or the goiter hasn't gone down.. there is more going on.

One reason goiters develop is the gland increasing in size to increase production and another is nodules or growths in the gland. Which ever it is you need to determine what.

Others are more knowledgeable on nodules and such so I'll pass on that... but if the RAI didn't destroy all of your thyroid tissue and some is growing/enlarging it would be because your replacement dose is too low...

So.. we need to see what your next labs are before you make any major alterations to your diet.. and they need to check the goiter itself to determine what is causing it.

I know it's really really hard to sit back and wait.. but this is all new for your body and you are going through a lot of adjustments. How long since the RAI?

Oh... I wish I could just twitch my nose and make us all better... if I find a genie lamp.. that's what I'm going to do. Rub that lamp and wish that everyone in the world that is suffering from thyroid disorders could have brand new shinny healthy working thyroid, with healthy hormone receptors and no antibodies!!!!

... did I cover it all in my wish?

Oh.. another thought... RAI... leaves you at risk for lymphedema..... Talk to your doc about that too if they don't come up with anything conclusive.. there is a yahoo group on lymph that and I joined up with to learn more about our conditions.... Lymph glands could be backing up... WENDY, are you reading this???? would backed up lymph in the neck region be fluid like... goiter like... the destroyed thyroid gland will atrophy and shrink... lymph fluid could be replacing the vacated space....

I may be TOTALLY wrong... but it popped into my head.

I had my RAI in October.

My family doctor said I should be put back on synthroid and I know it

would shrink my goiter down as I was on synthroid for 4 years.

I asked my Endo in Dec about going back on Synthroid and she said I

don't have to, I don't need it because my TSH, free T3 and free t4

are normal.

I'm sooo confused. I hate the way it is right now. I'm an emotional

wreck.

Bbbaaaadddd endo.

I know it can happen. But the chances of giving RAI and killing off just the perfect amount of gland to result in proper hormone levels is next to impossible.

You still need to know where your levels are within their ranges and you need more than just a TSH test.

If the goiter is still there things are not as they should be.

sigh... have you checked your basals?

Assuming that you've been sitting quietly at your computer for at least 20 minutes... take your pulse... you can click on the clock on the lower right of your screen to get a second hand..... count the number of beats in 6 seconds and then multiply by 10... tell me that number.

I don't mean to scare you... but you are not feeling well and there has to be a reason... lets find the reason... okay?

That makes sense to me----there are lymph nodes there( the throat,) and tonsils-- part of the lymph system...

Don't know if this makes a difference, but I got my tonsils out when

I was 7.

As far as my basals go. I'm not even sure what that means, but I

just took my pulse and its around 70.

Your waking body temp, resting pulse rate and resting respiration (breathing) tells a lot about your metabolic rate. Thyroid hormones have a lot of control over your metabolism. Your pulse rate doesn't seem to be off.

Tonsils are part of the lymphatic system. Now. Not doing this in ANY way to scare you or make you nervous.. just passing on info of possibilities so that you are aware of things and if tests show things or questions are asked you will have a basic understanding and can make choices instead of falling off your chair in shock.... I'd rather understand possibilities then get hit with something I am totally clueless about.....

Neck Lymphedema

There is a bunch of reading there for you... You can decide if any of this might apply to you...

There is a pic abit more than half way down. It's the pic that I used to do drainage on my neck, face and head.

I had this roll thing at the back of my neck, it was big enough so that I couldn't roll my head all the way back. I always thought it was fat. Doing the drainage, it's gone. When I propped my reading glasses up on top of my head I got dents from the ear pieces. Pitting edema... that's all gone now too. My face is less puffy and I now only have a double chin instead of a triple chin.

It's weird stuff and I didn't know much about it until the last few months. I've learned that it's a POSSIBLE side effect of RAI and that it can take as long as 20 years to start problems. I'm 15 years past RAI but some of the things that I've thought were fat, that are now either gone or smaller I've had for 6 or 8 years... always blaming it on hypo fat.. not knowing it was lymph fluid backing up.

Now.. your goiter may be goiter or it may not... either way you did have RAI and you should be aware of lymph and watch for it..

When you have a bit of time, after reading the lymph stuff.. check this out:

A note about lymphedema---tremendous quick changes of weight is symptomatic too. I was having swings of fifty lbs in a week's amount of time.....
