The link for the full article is included for those of you that want to read more. 14.12.03: Smoking and alcohol increase colorectal cancer risk New research observes that smoking, boozing levels, or having a first degree relative with colorectal cancer, enhance the risk for having serious colon polyps, eventually leading to colon cancer. Evidence suggests that screening asymptomatic populations beginning at age 50 years can reduce death due to colorectal cancer and the removal of precursor tumours also cuts down the incidence of colorectal cancer. Identification of important risk factors for advanced colonic tumours could inform both risk stratification and development of risk reduction strategies.
