Did anyone start an oral med for T2 around that? If so, could you

Hi Jany,

In Dec 2000, my A1c was 7.5. I was on 5 mg of Glyburide. In January 2001, I

started getting lows, so my doctor cut my meds in half. In February, 2001, I

was still getting lows every two hours so she discontinued my meds.

History of my A1c's

Dec 2000 7.5

June 2001 5.7

Dec 2001 6.5

June 2002 5.93

June 2003 5.22

June 2004 5.08

My doctor wants my A1c to be below 6.3. She did tell me that if it went

higher than 6.3, she would not immediately put me back on meds.

My Doctor told me the other day that to stay off meds I have to remain

under a1c 7.0. I imagine that would be glucophage/metformin.

Did anyone start an oral med for T2 around that? If so, could you

tell me what amount you started on at what a1c. Thanks

I take 850 mg glucophage 3 times a day

I haven't been over 7.0 a1c yet, and I'm on glucotrol XL. Mr dr is

watching me closely....as I only have one kidney. My last a1c....last

week.....was 6.6, yet he upped my glucotrol to 10 mg from 5mg. He wants

to see it be closer to 6.0 he said.

I've been diagnosed type 2 for a little over a year now.

I was diagnosed as T2 this past April 4004 at 6.3.

This past Friday I got my results at 6.6 and thats when my Dr

told me about the 7.0 for meds. I was wondering if 7.0 was

standard for meds.......Please, anymore replies are appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Janey - I have been strugging for 2 years to stay off meds. My last A1c was

6.6 also. Up to then, I was about 6.2 or 6.3. My doc didn't mention meds but I

think if I go higher he will.

I know why I went up - it is all these new darn low carb products on the market.

Two years ago, my WOE was quite limited. Now I have been trying lots of new

things. If, however, my next A1c is the same, or higher, I'll go back to my

limited carb eating.

I don't want to go on meds.

I take metformin 850mg 3x a day and glipizide 20mg 2x a day. The only side

effects I have is meals go right threw me. I have lost 33 pounds sinse

starting it last march without really trying much except watching carbs. I

dont get very hungry on them except rarely I will get be hungry for a few

hours and cant get enough to eat. But thats very rare. I find sinse they

have me take 3 metformins a day instead of 2 that I have more sugar lows a

week. Almost daily this week I have went hypo and its been mostly in evening

and after I have already eaten which I find odd. I was told by taking

metformin at night that I shouldnt wake with high blood sugars but I still

am. This mornings was 193 on waking. A little while later after taking my

meds it droped to 115. I dont really have many side effects but that. Just

have to stay close to the bathroom...ha fran

For those that take diabetes drugs (to lower blood sugar) which ones do

you take? Are you having any side affects on them?
