I think it makes a lot of sense to me, the mom who responded to glutamate. We have done everything, bio-med, strict diets CF/GF soy, sugar and corn free, SCD, Hard chamber, chelation, anti-virals, anti-fungalsa great deal of gut stuff, and the list goes on and on, and it just seems to me that I also find it strange that my son stims when he is happy or board. There has to be some correlation with the regulation of releasing these chemicals in the brain that they can't handle. If they are not getting anything else that can cause it, why does it still happen, Just a gut feeling?? Although, something interesting when he caught strep from his teacher last year for the first time (6 yearl old) and was put on antiobotics he didn't stim but infact was talking and singing songs that I never thought he knew??? Maybe we can all share and find a common ground on this post. I know for us, this is huge because it is holding him back from moving forward, especially when it comes to the district when these kids have so much potential. We have to help them!

bernice you realizing and making that antibiotic connection is HUGE! that means its not PART of your son and CAN be undone. have you looked into lyme and PANDAS? both things I would be looking at with that kind of history. does gamma strep show up on your kids comp testing? have you tried OLE daily to see if it gets ride of it

Today was another good day for my daughter, less verbal stimming, very chatty. She is still on the antibiotic. I am wondering if there is a correlation between the antibiotic, better awareness, and less stimming. I wonder if there is something natural to try that will have the same affect as the antibiotic, IF in fact, the antibiotic is killing off some bad stuff and in turn helping her awareness.

Is OLE the most common supplement to get rid of PANDAS? Are there other supps. that are helpful for this?

it's a natural antibiotic and works well with PANDAS. you don[t get rid of PANDAS you have to live with it but be in constant preventive mood as you will reflare with exposure to strep, and strep based probiotics

After reading these recent posts, I am starting to think that my son has PANDAS. Coincidentally we were at his ped's office for a six year well check and she drew blood for the strep titers that Christel mentioned in an earlier post.

I am a little confused, though. I thought it was Beta Strep that was the problem. We have never tested postive for Beta, but have tested positive for Gamma and Alpha Haemolytic strep strains. Are these, and just any strep strains, a concern? Our DAN dismissed PANDAS a lot time ago because it wasn't Beta. Also, how to you treat with OLE? Is this Olive Leaf Extract or Oregano Leaf Extract? My son is 40 lbs. What would the dosage be? Can you take it at the same time as Flagyl or any other commercial antibiotic?

Also, could you recommend a yogurt starter without dairy/casein or strep strains? We're on the SCD diet and I'm trying to start him on almond milk yogurt.

Many thanks! M

Christel,

His titers came up very very high for pandas, but in researching the data I found that it takes a good 8 months for the body to regulate itself so we are do to take another test to see what is going on. I will also check gamma strep, thank you. We have tested for Lyme and he doesn't have it. OLE can get rid of Pandas, is this for all types of strp?. Just wondering what forms OLE comes in?

Nuts can aggravate virus. We used raw soaked almonds on a rotational basis

during the strict stages of my son's recovery, but when I had such limited

options I started making a quinoa milk.

I just made this up :soaked quinoa seeds for 48 hours (rinsing resoak 1/2 way

point). Then I blended with filtered water and poured through a metal screen.

I added vanilla flavor, coconut oil, & liquid stevia too. It turned out to be a

pretty white and we were grateful to have a change.

Very important to rinse rinse rinse the quinoa very well after soaking.

pronounced. She talks under her breath, in a whisper tone, nearly all the time.

I can hear her doing this whether I'm in the same room as her or in another room

in the house. It seems that she can't help it, or stop herself for more than a

few moments. She does this even when someone is speaking, either to her or to

someone else nearby. It is constant, from the time she wakes up until she goes

to sleep. She is verbal, but does not have typical spontaneous speech. She

answers questions, makes requests, can tell you an event that occurred during

the day, but again, not spontaneous conversational speech. Her comprehension is

delayed, and often when I hear her talking in that whisper tone, what she is

saying doesn't make sense to me, just a few words mixed with sounds strung

together. When I ask her what she said, she will repeat it for me ( " go tell

them " , " cross the street " , etc.)

When you get a quick response to antibiotics, think pleomorphic bacteria because it will hibernate upon sensing antibiotics. When it hibernates, very few symptoms will be present. Pleomorphic bacteria includes Lyme, Bartonella, mycoplasma, Syphilis and Brucella. Some may have many of these in a chronic manner. Also, antibiotics can kill protozoa, so it's possible to get some relief due to that. I see this all the time. Some people ask their doctor to put their child back on antibiotics, which may be a great idea, but don't forget to do something for yeast overgrowth and replacing healthy microflora if you do. Liver support would also be a great idea.

Love and prayers,

Heidi N

Yes, there are many natural choices. I think many work, but it's a trick to get the dosing correct. Here's some to check into: Resveratrol, Samento, Cumanda, Barberry, BLt from www.clinicalresponseformulas.com , grapefruit seed extract, and probably many more that you see listed on these forums.

Love and prayers,

Today was another good day for my daughter, less verbal stimming, very chatty. She is still on the antibiotic. I am wondering if there is a correlation between the antibiotic, better awareness, and less stimming. I wonder if there is something natural to try that will have the same affect as the antibiotic, IF in fact, the antibiotic is killing off some bad stuff and in turn helping her awareness.Karmen

ASO titers and Anti Dnase. Cheryl~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~@midian42~ What are the tests that you have to have for these titers? From: Bernice Steffens <bssouthernlivoptonline (DOT) net>Subject: Re: Re: verbal stimming in response to a mom who commentedTo: mb12 valtrex Date: Thursday, November 5, 2009, 4:18 AM Christel,His titers came up very very high for pandas, but in researching the data I found that it takes a good 8 months for the body to regulate itself so we are do to take another test to see what is going on. I will also check gamma strep, thank you. We have tested for Lyme and he doesn't have it. OLE can get rid of Pandas, is this for all types of strp?. Just wondering what forms OLE comes in?Bernice Re: verbal stimming I wouldn't have even considered casein was still in your daughter's diet since you were so doing so much bio med..I think it would definitely be beneficial to stop completely.. These are usually safe and beneficial strains of strep. In PANDAS, many of them can't tolerate *any* strep strains. So they are doing it for the majority, not the minority. Not all cases can't tolerate strep strains in probios but it's always something to consider and watch out for in PANDAS. I know there is a name for PANDAS in adults but I can't remember it off the top of my head. Cheryl~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~@midian42~ Better question. Why do people who make probiotics put strep in them? From: kcboone <kcboonecomcast (DOT) net>Subject: Re: Re: verbal stimming in response to a mom who commentedTo: mb12 valtrex Date: Thursday, November 5, 2009, 5:47 AM Are there probiotics that should NOT be taken with PANDAS? Just to expand on this topic, nuts can aggravate viruses because of the arginine. The lysine/arginine ratio is what causes viruses to flourish. You need to have much more lysine than arginine. So if you have a nut heavy diet, be sure to take *lots* of lysine. Or just lower the amount of arginine intake. Cheryl~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~@midian42~ Nuts can aggravate virus. We used raw soaked almonds on a rotational basis during the strict stages of my son's recovery, but when I had such limited options I started making a quinoa milk.
