Being hyper does affect those type of brain-language functions.. Tapazole, oddly enough, also has some affect on memory and language functions.. Two things happen though. You will adjust to the meds, and as your doses are lowered, so will the side effects and then when you are off the meds you won't have an on-going problem from that source. I found the chance for remission more than a fair-trade off...even with the Tapazole forgetfulness, I was doing better than when hyperthyroid. Mental functioning slows when hypothryroid. And remember that depression, which goes with both ends of the hormone spectrum challenges our capacity to communicate as well. The good news is these things are all reversible as levels are righted and the finely tuned systems of the body recalibrate. Of course all flesh is heir to aging and loss and menopause. We can still aim for health given our circumstances...but it is a moving target! Best to you! Jeannette
