Guest guest
Guys, I just got a call from my rheumy's office and he will NOT give me any narcotics. what kind of pain med is going to work that's not narcotic. Ultram did nothing for me. I can't take much Tylenol or Advil because of the liver problems and I'm prone to ulcers. If I get an ulcer being on the coumadin, then I could bleed internally and it could wreak total hell on my " pouch " . the gastric by-pass version of the stomach. I'm going to try to get a referral tomorrow to see a pain specialist. this is BULLCRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Stupid Doctors! I hate them ... and my FIL is a Dr. so I shouldn't really but I do! I have been on a dose of 2 Vicodins a day since my injury in 2001 - and I have medical records to prove it. See my other vent email. FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR! A woman, a woman knows pain - I always tell the Doctor to give me something or I'll end up in the hospital later that evening. When they don't want to give me anything, I tell the Doctor then find something that works for me cause you HAVE TO GIVE ME SOMETHING FOR PAIN, it's agains the law for them not to. Even if it's just for a day or two. It is in CA anyway. I'm sorry - I know how angry and frustrated you must be. You have my complete understanding. > > Guys, I just got a call from my rheumy's office and he will NOT give
Guest guest
Good for you. I hope you find a group like mine. It is a l pain clinic that is run by a local hospital and they are really only concerned with getting the patient out of pain. I started with them in March, and I am still in pain but they have given me Norco which is the best thing for pain I have tried so far. It dulls the pain pretty well but only for 1 - 2 hours and I can only take 5 a day 6 hours apart. I usually take 2 at a time so I have to ration them. Please let us know how it goes with the pain specialist. Guest guest
Tigger, I would recommend talking to your primary care physician but do have one question for you. What is the reason that the rheumy won't give you a narcotic pain medication? Also, narcotic pain medications can be made in to a compounded form for those that have specific needs related to their health. And I think it's a good idea to see a Pain Management doctor about your pain. Guest guest
Oh, Tigger! Sorry your rheum won't give you any narcotics. Mine won't either. Ultram doesn't help much for me and neither does Darvocet much. Hope the pain clinic can give you something stronger. soft hugs, Debbie J > > Guys, I just got a call from my rheumy's office and he will NOT give me any > narcotics. what kind of pain med is going to work that's not narcotic. > Ultram did nothing for me. Guest guest
TIgger, I went through a simular thing here. I was taking a narcotic for flare-ups, but then the doctor decided to switch me to something " less addictive and less dangerous " . She switched me to Ultracet. It freaken sucked. Darn stuff stopped working when I started showing signs of a flare-up. I ended up having a week where I was literally crying to her nurse and finally I got the Okay to take the narcotic I had left for the flare-up. I don't think she really had any clue what it was like until then. She called me into her office the that week. She fit me into her schedule. I went back in and was honest with her. I told her exactly when it stopped working. She broke. She prescribed the narcotic but only gave me a 30 day supply. Said make sure it lasted. She honestly though that I was addicted to it. I don't even take the narcotics unless the other stuff doesn't work. Then I wait until I almost can't bare it any more. I think that time she learned that when I say I need to take it to just be able to function at work so that I am not in pain that stops me from moving, she now understands it a little more. But she is picky as to anything she prescribes. When so many have had success with Cymbalta she won't prescribe it because it is a drug for depression. There are others like that. I also have swelling from an old injury. I show signs of arthritis in that spot. She wants me on something to lower that. At least she is now trying to find what mix of medications work. There are times though when I still feel like she is looking at me and thinking " this is all in her head. " But how many of the older ones don't go down that line of though?
