Guest guest
I eat low fat as well as low carb. Also, I think the lower the A1C, the lowerthe LDL. Guest guest
Harry, I am on a statton (Lipidor) and my ldl last time was 64. My doc says the latest thinking is that diabetics should have an ldl 70 or lower. Unfortunately, my hdl is very low, and the stattons can also affect that. My hdl was 23. I have decreased my 20 mg. of Lipidor to 10 mg. per day, hoping that it will allow my hdl to come up a little. I know this might also increase my ldl again, but I'd be happy if both values increased by 10 points, in other words, an ldl of 74 and an hdl of 34. Dave test results Got my results from blood work. Guest guest
I too take a statin-lipitur-but apparently get enough exercise to keep up the HDL. My husband runs a really low HDL, despite the fact he does a lot of exercise, so I think some of this is genetic. Re: test results Harry, I am on a statton (Lipidor) and my ldl last time was 64. Guest guest
Hi Pat, Muy doc tells me my low hdl is genetic. Nonetheless, I still have hopes of " forcing " it to go higher if possible! Guest guest
Dave, I have a friend who is in his 70's. He rides his bicycle 15-20 miles at least 3 to 4 times a week and his HDL is still in the 30's! That is definitely genetic to have that low anHDL with that much exercise. If you LDL and total cholesterol are low, then I wouldn't worry about it. Re: test results Hi Pat, Muy doc tells me my low hdl is genetic. Guest guest
Hi Dave, The Doctor's office would certainly need the software and cable to print it out. The intention was to have the individual bring in the meter so records could be looked at, or bring a print out from home, or e-mail a file to the doctor. However, as you suggest, the software is accessible at this point for persons with sight. I will ask at the office to confirm as I haven't had the chance to use the software myself yet. As I don't have the right cable, it won't work, I don't think. Re: test results Are you sure they can't print out the readings from your meter? The issue about accessibility doesn't mean the software isn't usable by sighted staff in the doctor's office. Anything on this Ruth? Dave Victim of a crime? My A1C was 6.3-up .6 since last time, cholesterol was 160 with HDL at 57 and LDL at 76, creatiniine was stable at 3.0 (this has been running this high for several years, but the doc is happy it is stable) and I lost 3 pounds. Then we went to our ceremics class and while there experienced a 5.4 point earthquake! Guest guest
Hi Dave, At this point the onus would be on the patient to get the doctor to get a cable. I don't know if the doctors are given one or if they have to purchase one. The software is free so that is not an issue. DDI could not possibly force all the doctors to have this, but if the patient advocates, then I'd imagine the doctor's office would accommodate his or her patient. Ruth From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of dave Bond Sent: Tuesday, July 29, 2008 7:41 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: test results I used to print out my readings with the Accuchek meters I've had, and one time I wasn't able to, so I took the meter with me and asked the staff if they had the ability to print out the readings. They said sure, and a few minutes later, I walked back for my appointment with a print out in hand. I would think the Prodigy folks would want doctor's offices to have the software and a cable so they can accommodate folks. Dave Victim of a crime? Guest guest
Well, it sounds like, if we gave our doctor's office the heads-up, and sent them the software, then brought the cable with us, they should be able to print out the readings. I know I wasn't the only person they did this for when I had my Accuchek/Voicemate, so I kind of think a lot of offices are at least vaguely familiar with this, if not very familiar. Should I have gotten the software when I received my meter earlier this year? Thanks. Dave Victim of a crime?
