Guest guest
Hi everyone, Well, I had my " 3rd " opinion appt. with a peri today, to talk about the risks of prg. with my 1.5 cm septum. She advised against a second surgery. She indicated that my chance of pre-term labor could go up from 10% (baseline for all women) to 15% or so, although those numbers were pulled from women who had all sizes of septa, not just residual ones. She further instructed me (pretty firmly!) to have a renal ultrasound (and my mom too!) She told me to call her and let her know how my kidneys are-- " she likes to know these things for future reference " . When I asked her about the standard of care I should receive in prg, she said " VERY good question! " and told me that I should expect a transvaginal ultrasound to check my cervix every 2 weeks starting at week 15. She also indicated that even though my septum is small, no matter, ANY woman who has had ANY MA is considered high risk to her. (Don't you like her already??) She suggested I either come to see her or another peri for all my prenantal care, or, I see my OB for most stuff and see the peri for all those tv u/s cervical checks, and I be turned over to the peri if there's a problem of any kind. Lastly, she asked what I did for a living, and I told her I was a grad student at Harvard in genetics, and she said " Ah. That explains it. " And I, of course, said " what? " And she said " That you have seen so many doctors and know so much about your condition--you understand that when it comes to health and biology, there usually isn't a black and white. When it comes to reproductive medicine, it's all very grey, and you are trying to gather data and make the most informed choice you can. " She seemed very pleased by this. I liked her very much. She wasn't cheery by any means; she just told it like it was. But, she wasn't gloom and doom either. And she respected my own research into my condition, and used the proper medical words instead of babying it all down for me. She was very to the point, very calm, very " scientific " if you know what I mean. I think she'll be a good complement to my more homey, cheery regular OB. Thanks for listening. Now I just need to GET PRG! Jill SU, 1.5 cm left, ttc
