Guest guest
If you start Lycria I would not take pain meds or muscle relaxers especially in the beginning ...The first day I felt really up taking it but it did cause dizzyness like I had A glass of wine.. Lol But they warn you of that.. The next day was a lot better.. Meantime It took a lot of the pain I noticed if you skip a dose you know it. One day I hurt but it was more my osteoarthritis.. If it continues like this I will be very thankful.. It effects everyone different.. Hugs Bet -- Lyrica....please help Hi everyone, I have not been here in a long time. I hope all is going well with you. I am going down hill. I can't function. I called in sick to work today. I had CFS back in the 80's. I lived with it over the years. In 2000 I got worse and they said it was Fibro. In 2004 it got worse yet and last year it got very bad. I spent over $1,200 in co-pays alone! Nothing works and I seem to be over sensitive to drugs. I thought I was going to have a heart attack with the nortriptilyne. I took muscle relaxers at night for months till I realized that I was getting depressed from them. (I'm not one for depression). Last year I began having panic attacks (not like me either) so I had lorazapam for awhile. I can't take Advil or Alieve too often as I have a hernia and bad stomach. My doctor had recommended St s Wort for depression... and after a year I finally got a Rhuemie doctor. Yes..finally. And...wouldn't you know it...he is a jerk. I have been at my job as a hard working faithful employee for over 23 years. My family doctor had me out of work last year for a few months because I as so sick with this. I saw this new Rhumie doctor for the second time Wednesday. I have encountered a really bad flare. I mean the kind you can't sleep..and you cry and throb and ache. I have tingles really bad in my arms and legs....and he also thinks I have artheritis going on as I am in pain to bend my writs...albows...knees..hips...(should just say my whole body) SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AFTER THIS LONG STORY....he wants me on LYRICA. He also wouldn't write me out of work for a bit. He finally said he would give me two days. WHAT...WHAT....IS HE KIDDING. I'm really bad off!! I read some stuff on this Lyrica and it freaked me out. ESPECIALLY ABOUT THE WEIGHT GAIN.I'm not obess...but like many 53 year olds I have 20 pounds that should come off. what can you guys tell me first hand about this. Is there really this gigantic weight gain? How about water retention I read about..along with raised blood pressure. Any info would be sooo helpful. As of last year I quit smoking (only gained a little weight)...changed my eating to organic. I take a vitiman...and B complex. I take muscle relaxers when I'm desperate to sleep and I take lorazapam when I feel paniky. I got a feeling this disease is what makes me have panic attacks....not vise versa as some lead me to think. thanks again...and I'm sorry this is long. There is so much to this I could write chapters. Gold

Guest guest
Gold, Wow! Welcome back stranger - I've been wondering what has happened to you. I don't think I have had a problem with weight gain. Yes I weigh a little too much but I can't blame it on any drugs. Before all these problems surfaced I weighed about 126-127lbs. Now I vary from 126-130 depending on how hungry I get. I am 5 even (lost 2 inches with age) . I feel best if I weigh around 120 or less but the one time I lost 29 lbs due to developing celiac disease, I went down to 99 and was frightened that it happened so fast. I have had no problems with Lyrica. It is really bad that you have run into so many problems and the people who can help you wont. Are there any pain specialists where you live? Be sure he/she is not the kind that just wants to give you injections in your lower back. You want one who will prescribe pain medication. Again, it is good to hear from you again. Depression you don't need along with all this! Margaret B > Hi everyone, > > I have not been here in a long time. I hope all is going well with > you. > > I am going down hill. I can't function. Guest guest
Gold, I am so sorry you are going through all this. I wish I could do something to help you feel better. I understand the shoulder and arm pain - it seems to be the most common symptom in fibro. Lower back also. I went through a lot of that pain before I started on Lyrica but I know it doesn't help everyone. It doesn't help with the muscle pain much (for me) but it really helped the nerve pain. What is wrong with your Dr that he can't see that you are not able to work! I really think that a lot of the Drs don't believe that we are in the pain we are in. Just a thought - would massage or a chiropractor help? I've never tried either but I've thought a lot about trying. When it comes to holding things, I dropped and broke so many dishes, glasses etc., that my family insisted I pick out some Corelle (or plastic which I don't like because they wont hold the heat in food). When I found a pattern that I liked, I was given 12 place settings and I haven't broken a single piece. I do know how it makes you feel to keep dropping things or to have to hold them so securely that it causes pain. The depression is a BIG problem. You must get some help with that. People on the list talk about being helped with medication. but I don't know what type of Dr will prescribe it. Perhaps your GP or Internist. I understand that disability is very hard to get but some people have been successful. Have you tried to apply for it? I know it isn't nearly enough to live on but if working is so difficult, perhaps that is the answer. Of course your Dr has to agree and it sounds as if you would have trouble there. I just don't know what to say to make you feel any better but I sure hope that the pain lets up for you, and if the pain lets up the depression should also. Hang in there, Im sure the people on this list are rooting for you. Margaret B > >> >> Hi Margaret!!! > > I was out of work from May till November last year. Guest guest
Gold, New to this group but I had to post to see if what I learned might help you. You said that you don't tolerate drugs very well which seems to be part of these illnesses (I have CFS and FM). I noticed that it takes very little of any drug to get the affect of what others have on higher doses. My doctor has started me out on even less than stated starting doses and I seem to tolerate that much better. Also the few things I have tolerated well over several years start losing their effectiveness. Lyrica helped with the pain but my doctor also said it would help with the sleep. It did for me. I wasn't on it very long - didn't tolerate it well as with so many drugs this happens to me but it did help the pain while on it. Immediately I noticed an increase in appetite but that might have tapered off once my body got used to. Hope this helps,

Guest guest
hi i took lyrica for a while but i could not function at all i slept all the time so i didnt eat so i didnt gain weight but i couldnt do anything else either. about the rumie you talked about my doctor sent me to one and he wrote me 6 different scripts but only for 2 weeks worth, so when i went back to my regular doctor they wouldnt write scripts for any of the meds the rumie put me on, how crazy is that? so i had to change doctors, and my doctors wouldnt put me out of work wither but gave me meds that when i take them i dont remember going to work at all its like i wake up and am at work and dont remember getting there, my daughter also says that i get up at night and do weird things like look at the stove or out the door and i dont remember any of it, so now i worry about hurting myself when i take the meds but i worry about getting in the shape i was in before the meds the proverberal between a rock and a hard place thing going on. I also posted a message to this group that untill i read it i didnt remember posting it. i know i sound like i am crazy but i'm not. its just this thing called fibro that takes control and wont let go. take care and strength to you. > > Hi everyone, > > I have not been here in a long time.
