Guest guest
Honestly I have only had 2 or 3 migraines since being diagnosed. I used to have them every few weeks. when I took control, and my bg was stable, they were gone. Every once in a while, I get very tired, and rundown, that is when I get one. Though I started getting them in high school, I think that it may have been hormones then... Angelia in OR Question--migraine headaches > Hi all > > I have a question for you all. > > Off and on I have suffered from migraine headaches. They started about 22 years ago. After a couple of years they went away. Didn't have one for almost 10 years. All of a sudden about 10 months ago they started again. Usually once a week and sometimes I've been lucky and they skipped two weeks. Well, I have had one now three days in a row--Sunday, Monday and last evening. I am really wondering if maybe when my BGs started going up that's when the migraines started again. > > Has anyone heard of migraines being related to diabetes?? Is it possible that there is some connection?? > > My BGs are coming down (my meter average since I began in May is 110) with an average of 120 in the AM (fasting) but I have been having lows around 6:30 PM 3 nights out of 5. I tested myself while I was in the middle of a migraine aura. Once it was 139 and the second time it was 75. I am getting really down about the migraines. I have meds for them but they are still disruptive and the headaches will last for two days. > > I had mentioned the frequency of the migraines to my Doctor when I was there last but she didn't seem concerned. I would do almost anything to stop getting them but I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions?? > > Kathy > type 2--May'04 > > > > Diabetes homepage: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/diabetes/ > > To unsubscribe to this group, send an email to: diabetes-unsubscribe > Hope you come back soon! >

I have never had a migraine and very seldom have any type of headache, so I cannot answer your question. I do have a friend that is constantly in bed because of migraines. She does not have diabetes. hugs Eunice
Guest guest
I'd like to know about any relationship between diabetes and migraines or headaches in general. I posted this question yesterday and so far no replies, but I'm sure someone will answer me! My headaches, which could be migraines as I am not familiar with them, started after I was really sick in April and I would wake up with them most mornings, hurting right between my eys, they have made me vomit on occasion and that didnt help at all. My doc gave me Novasen and that did help but I am reluctant to take it unless it's really bad. Today was the first day I woke up without a headache and I've been fine all day, no idea what's different that I am ok today. My diabetes is in check, in fact it's been low consistently since April. Guest guest
>>Kathy, I have those a lot also. I don't no if they r >>related or not. The just said to use estrogen. Bernetta >>>>>>>>>> Well, I am not going to take estrogen. Don't need to. I did take it for about 1 week a number of years ago (when I wasn't having migraines!!) and it made all my menopausal symptoms ten times worse. So I had to stop. Since I have already been through the " changes " the migraines aren't related to that. And I dearly wish they would just stop and go away. Didn't have one yesterday. Thank God for small favors. And I am hoping I won't have another for a few days. They really take alot out of you. I have meds for the migraines that at least takes away alot of the pain but they still make me feel miserable for 24 to 48 hours afterwards. It is very difficult to cope and get my exercise when all I want to do is crawl back to bed in a dark and quiet room. Guest guest
I'm sorry; my answer must not have gone through. I know lots of nondiabetics who get migraines, and lots of diabetics who don't; this would lead me to think that any relationship between the two conditions is extremely attenuated, and may be nonexistant. Guest guest
I have suffered from Migraines for many years and finally 2 yrs ago went to see a Neuro. While participating in a migraine study we were able to figure out my triggers and found a med that worked to help prevent having so many. At that time I was having them weekly. I also now take a migraine med at the onset and most of the time have been able to stop it. There have been times that migraines have not been stopped by meds and only waiting the 2-4 days till it is gone is the answer. I have recently been diagnosed with type II and funny thing is (and lucky) have yet to have a migraine. I will be testing my BG at the onset and throughout to see how it affects my sugar levels. My preventive migraine meds have made no difference in my sugar levels (since I have been testing I have had lows down to 19 and highs up to 239) and have experienced no migraines with either end of the spectrum. I must say however that my Internist and Neuro docs work hand in hand when making drug treatments due to the many meds to be sure that one is not going to cause an effect on the other. (I also have HBP, high cholesterol and high trigs) HTH Dana Type II diagnosed in May 2004 Controlled currently with a healther lifestyle

Guest guest
I don't know of any relationship between diabetes and headaches, however, if you wake up with a headache, especially between the eyes, it is usually a sinus headache. Migraines are usually on one side of the head with sensitivity to light, noise and motion. Sometimes accompanied by nausea and/or vomitting. I used to get migraines before every period for about 15 years. After the birth of my daughter occasionally and while I was on hormones occasionally. Since stopping the hormones, absolutely none. Guest guest
I use to have lot of headaches, I'm TypeII, also indigestion problems. No more. I used ginger in juice or shredded form. Juicing ginger is messy, but the best. I still eat ginger root, raw, in shredded form, mixed with few spoons of apple sauce and cinnamon or on top of salads. Quite tasty medication. I head a bad headaches few days ago, all day, made some ginger shred, it went away in 10 minutes. Nerves stomach cause migrant headaches. My wife use to have lot of headaches, she couldn't believe me. She refuse to take ginger at first, saying, my stomach don't hurt, that's BS. Finely she tried it and it worked, in few minutes and the headaches went away. If you try it, let me know how it works. Guest guest
I have had migraines sense I was 16 and I had them real bad before I was diagnosed and I notice that when I am out of control yes I get a migraine. It could also be stress. Lots of stress involved in this disease. Lots of changes.sus -----Original Message----- From: Carolyn Phelps I've honestly thought of asking this question to the group myself! Before diagnosis 2 years ago, I think I had 2 migraines my entire life! Now, lately, I've been getting them every other week or so! It 's so hard to deal with them! I just had one all day saturday, and my eyes have been sore and puffy/swollen for a week... I look like my grandfather!!!! I think I noticed a link between nighttime lows and the migraines for a while, but the last two weren't related to a nighttime low... now I just don't know why I get them. I sure wish they'd stop,though... I'm also bruising very easily lately... and I never bruised easily before. I have NO idea how I got them or where they came from. Any ideas from group on bruising? Lack of iron? High numbers? I don't know! Carolyn
