I'm in agreement here. Dr. Weil, as said, is a big proponent of soy, but I

don't think he realizes just how detrimental this could be to bringing down

the thyroid of a very normal person. If he does, he's not saying so avidly!

I like his ideas on many of the natural remedies, but they don't take into

acct the thyroid facts. If a person is not aware of these facts, they can

work their thyroid into never working again. Herbs and such are serious

business, and you have to know what you're doing when you take these things.

Many of them are better natural remedies for health problems than what Big

Pharma is making money off of, and that's why they've tried to cover up the

efficacy of these things, but knowledge and caution is needed when taking

them, just as with prescription drugs. After all, many prescription drugs

were farmed from plants and natural remedies in the past. Has anyone seen

the deal on the Red Yeast Rice? Supposedly, a big pharmaceutical company

has sued, gotten the FDA to agree with them, and gotten this substance

banned from use here in the U.S. because it actually contains the SAME

natural ingredient that one of their big selling cholesterol busting drugs

has in it! (Hmmm....Seems to me that the natural remedy would come under a

grandfather clause, since IT existed First, huh!!!) The booklet that I got

on this in the mail is from Dr. 's Nutrition and Healing

booklet, Winter 2005. , M.D., was/is a pioneer in the

natural remedies, including the bio-equivalent female hormones, and is

partly responsible for exposing the Prempro, Premarin, and other equine

hormones for how detrimental they are to a human female. If this really is

true about the Red Yeast Rice, then it IS as this booklet says----the FDA is

the hitman for Big Pharma. As I said before, both a blessing and a curse.

Soy business is good dollars for U.S. industry. Red Yeast Rice and good

things like it are BAD for the pharma industry.

Soy is a HUGE crop in Minnesota, and many other states too. I'm angry right now...

It was years ago that I read about soy by products being used as animal feed. The soy industry didn't want to just throw the stuff away, they wanted to find a market, and did, as a high protein feed for livestock. But, in just a matter of a couple of generations that offspring were showing birth defects, genetic alterations....

.... so they couldn't feed it to livestock anymore... so the came up with was to market it as food for people....

I can't find that information again... I think it has been pulled.. why was it pulled?

In the years that have gone by since then soy has been promoted hand over fist as a GOOD thing... Is it? More and more info is coming to light that it's not.

My personal experience? When I was in thyroid storm my body was in need of constant food, the last couple of months before I was finally diagnosed and given RAI I gave up sleeping cause I had to stay up to eat. One of the things that I suddenly craved and ate by the bucket full was toasted soy nuts. They were so delicious, so crunchy, it was like I couldn't get enough of them. After the RAI and my thyroid gland being destroyed and my becoming hypo, weight started being attracted to me like crazy. I was trying to improve my diet.. going from 25,000 calories a day to 2,000 is a hard thing to do... one of the things that I tried was the soy nuts that I loved so much. They were disgusting. I got an upset stomach... they were just soooo gross.

That's when I started looking into soy... why did I love them so much for that period of time when I was hyper? Why were they so disgusting when I wasn't hyper anymore? That's when I found the research about the animals.

Did my body naturally crave them as a way to block some of the excess thyroid hormone during my storm? Did it realize after the RAI that the soy was bad for me?

I still think about that...

Now we have all these herbals that help folks.. but the FDA says that you can no longer say what a particular natural item can do to positively affect your health.. Now they are calling everything a disease. They have said that only a medication can be used to treat a disease. So saying that a particular herbal can help with a particular ailment is illegal because ONLY medications (prescription) can treat disease.

Isn't a disease something that you catch? A virus, a bacteria, you catch it from being exposed to it....

Are ulcers catchy? Is cancer catchy?

I'll be quiet now...

, I am a firm believer in your body craving what it needs! Several years ago I was having some horrid muscle spasms in my abdomen. I was also craving dill pickles, & olives. I ate them by the jar and the spasms stopped.

That one sounds like you were dehydrating and losing your body's salt. I think you were instinctively trying to replenish the salt.

Well recently it has just been olives, but I had two of the abdominal spasms today and I haven;t had them in several months till now. Just last week I bought 2 jars of green olives. I started eating them tonight. Back when I had these WAY too often I went to 2 different doctors about it. One gave my colon spasm medication... the other just said my sodium was a tad off on my blood work. My guess is it is sodium/potassium imbalance that is doing this to me. But then tonight I ate a can of pears too... too close!

Hi ,

Do I understand right when I say that cheese is very good for us??

Hope so as I love that stuff and eat it often and with our list of

able to eat things shrinking it would be great to know that at least

this is OK.
