Hi Laurie,

Thanks so much for your kind words! Couldn't reach the cancer center

yesterday and they are closed today. I was thinking of going ahead

Friday with my first radiation session if possible, and will try

calling them again Friday morning to see if they can get me in that

afternoon to start treatment.

On other stuff...

I've recently been thinking a lot more about Asp's ideas of posting

discussions/thoughts along the lines of " interesting books/videos "

for cancer patients, even if not always exactly " about " cancer (Thank

you Asp!). There are many aspects of " spirituality " we could expore

here, I believe without stepping on anyone's toes (as of course we

are all different in our approaches as has been discussed

previously!). That's an avenue which I haven't seen too much on

different Boards...but there still seems a lot of overlooked

potential to me. Whaddya guys think!?

I just remembered yesterday a (children's) video we saw not long ago

which was quite good. It's called " Spirited Away " , and can be rented

in your local video store. A few reviews are here

This fascinating anime was originated by a Japanese director - but

has been redone by Disney for American/Western audiences. I would

have never heard of it but for my Korean friend who seeks

out " unusual " things like this! The film is not about " cancer " as

such, but (like Skellig) I found it very uplifting and worthwhile!

Hi :

Just getting back to the board and haven't read all the posts, so

just wanted to say that I hope you got in for your appointment today

and that things went well.

I love books and film myself and am always looking for a good

recommendation. I would love to explore that a little more here.

Interesting that you should mention Spirited Away. My son watched

the film with a friend, while I kind of looked on from the sidelines,

so unfortunately I never really got a sense of it. The guy at the

video store recommended it to us, and at first I was a bit unsure

because I am so used to seeing Japanese animation ala Pokemon and

Digimon and thought this might be more of the same. Just goes to

show you can never judge a book by its cover. I'll have to have a

look at it again.

My husband and I went to see a film last week called In America. We

both enjoyed it immensely, though it was difficult to watch at

times. If anyone goes to see it they should definitely take kleenex

with them. The story is about an Irish family who moves to America

shortly after the loss of a child, and in a bigger way, about how one

continues on after experiencing loss.

I also purchased Lance Armstrong's biography, It's Not About The

Bike, over the holidays and am looking forward to reading it. Will

post a review when finished.

I kinda like " quirky " films like this at times...it did seem to have

a pretty different flavor than the Pokeman/Digiman stuff which I've

never really " gotten into " (!)

If you enjoy some of the foreign/Irish films, you might also like the

fascinating " Secret of Roan Innish " (also an Irish movie). Also

explores theme of experiencing loss (but a happier ending!). Of late,

I've seemed to be enjoying things like this as something with

a " different orientation " (but still for the entire family) if ya

know what I mean!
