Guest guest
Hi Jim, I too have a brother who was dx with CC on 12/02. He had since went through 2 operations (colon and liver resections) and 7 cycles of CTP- 11/5FU/Leu. In Nov, his CT-Scan showed 2 tumors surfaced on his liver. He then joined the Phase III clinical trial of Oxal/Leu/5FU and PTK787/ZK. Yesterday was his 2nd cycle of treatment so we don't know the CEA result yet. The first week was a bit rough (3rd and 4th days, probably because he didn't take any side affect control drugs). The only major problems my brother had seemed to be heartburn (feeling of indigestion) and hiccups. His hemoglobin & WBC are still in the normal ranges (except his platelet count a bit low, which I want to ask the group later on a different message). The PTK pills are taken daily, and he seems to have taken the 'real' ones. He had tremandous heartburn and nausea 2 hours after taken the pill everytime, so the onc prescribed him some acid control drug and that seemed to help. To go on this trial, I think your brother may need to have the PICC line (i.e. port) installed. That is for the 22 hours of continuous 5FU transfusion. Other than the above information, I don't really know about the onc decision on chemo first before radiation, or whether L4 tumor is operatable. Maybe someone else from the group would be able to help. If I find anything more, I will let you know. In the meantime, you may want to check out message #7601 and #7602 where provided me some links to some helpful information on PTK787/ZK Hope this helps and best wishes, Loc > Hello, I'm new to group but have been monitoring messages for some > time now. > > My Brother (45) dx with colon cancer on 7/03, 13 out 13 lymph nodes > involved, met to a nodal area near L4. Guest guest
here is the link to the clinical trial information with PTK787/ZK that provided me last time http://tinyurl.com/xwwy As for getting the 'real thing' and not placebo, that was just our guesses. Out of the 3 patients taking the pills, onc nurse said that my brother was the only one complained about the heartburn (all night when he took the pill around 6pm) and nausea (about 2 hour after taken the pill, every time), so onc prescribed him some acid control drug to ease the affects. Regardless, I believe mentally would help too if he thinks he is getting the real ones. btw, Happy New Year everyone, Loc > What is The PTK/757/PK You mentioned he got the real thing not a placebo. > We are at sea about tht?
