Guest guest
Hardy, Talk to your doctor and anesthesia doc prior to surgery. I would try to track down your old records if you can, I think there are several kinds of anesthesia they can use. And I REALLY don't think that Chiari surgery is something you'd want to stay awake for, I think I'd rather die. I don't know that you'd find a surgeon who'd do it under local either. Be sure to get 2nd and 3rd opinions before considering surgery. My nsg looked at the malformation(7mm+),the quality of my life(nil, chronic pain & fatigue.diag.FMS),the Chiari type symptoms(got head/neck pain, severe + balance probs),and whether I'd tried all the non-surgical options(been there, done that), before he recommended surgery. I have 11 days to go and I'm panicking as I count down. Believe me, if they could knock me out now, for surgery on the 13th, I'd let them!!! What part of the country are you in? There are several excellent docs for Chiari, it is fairly rare so make sure you're seeing a GOOD doctor who does a lot of Chiari surgery!!! Good luck!
