Guest guest
Phyllis, I just posted a question yesterday about GFCF protein powder for my 13 month old daughter because I needed something to add to her GFCF " milk. " I've talked to my children's nutritionist (who has excellent credentials, and ASD child and recommends the DAN! protocol) and doctor (who has an ASD child and follows the DAN! protocol). Both told me to give my daughter calcium fortified rice or potato milk and add liquid vitamins (I use Country Life Maxi Baby Care with Iron from the HFS) and 1/4-1/2 teaspoon 4x per day of flax seed oil to either her " milk " or table food. They also said to monitor her protein intake and, if necessary, add a protein powder to her " milk. " Robin responded to my request for info. about a GFCF protein powder. She said: I use a Dairy Free Vegetarian Organic Vanilla Rice Proein powder made by NutriBiotic of Lakeport, CA 95453. Ingredients: Enzymatically processed rice protein from certified organically grown california brown rice and organic vanilla flavor. Contains no soy, milk, egg, yeast, corn, wheat, sugars, or preservatives. It has 12 grams of protein per Tablespoon and 58 calories. I paid $17.00 for a 1 lb. 5 oz (big) container. I have not called to confirm it's gf status but give it to my 8 yr. old with no problems or reactions. It does taste like c**p - but works ok in a smoothie. It probably tastes no worse than formula though! Both my doctor and nutritionist said that my daughter absolutely doesn't need and really shouldn't have cow's milk. The only reason we give our kids cow's milk is because it's a simple, relatively cheap, reliable source of fat, calcium and protein. But kids can get those things from lots of other sources. But I understand your trepidation! The dairy industry has brainwashed us into thinking that if we don't give our kids cow's milk, they're going to shrivel up and die ( " Where's your milk moustache? " ). - Becky B.
