What a bummer about the test. I think Jeanette had to go through the

more extensive test. I think I heard that it goes away as soon as you

have the baby. I got tested for anemia on my first visit. I think

they should check it every month. Good luck w/your test next week.

Please let me know when you are going.

Pam

I'm sorry I don't know much about either subject. But I wanted you to know I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that the next test comes back normal.

Love & hugs,

glucose & iron question

Hi all. Unfortunately, my glucose test came back high and I am a little anemic. Has anyone had to have the "detailed glucose test" I have to do the drink on a fasting basis and then do 3 blood draws all morning with no food :-( I am really upset because I consider myself to be very healthy. I don't eat any red meat so that might be contributing to my iron deficiency (anemia) but I have tried to make up for that by eating more fruits, vegtables, and peanut butter!!! No one in my family has diabetes either. Any input would be appreciated! Of course, I will keep you updated...I do the test sometime next week, I have to follow a strict diet for 3 days prior to the test -I am not worried about that, I am worried about the test day when I can't eat all morning! Ugh!Thanks,27 Weeks

I'm sorry about your glucose test coming back a little off... I don't have any first hand experience with the 3 hour glucose tolerance test, but my SIL did have gestational diabetes with her first child. I don't think family history of diabetes has anything to do with you getting it during pregnancy.

My SIL is very fit and healthy... she's actually quite thin. The only thing that she had to do once they told her she had GD was to watch her sugar intake. The only downside, if you call this a downside, is that my nephew entered the world a robust 9lbs 8ozs! Summer, my SIL, is about 5'7" and weights about 115lbs soaking wet! So, that was quite a big baby for her!

After he was born, she never had anymore trouble with the diabetes thing at all. And, she didn't even get GD with her second pregnancy.

So, sorry to be so long winded! I'm sure you probably don't even have it!

Maybe you ate something a little too sweet prior to the test...??? Try and not worry sweetie!

Thanks Pam. Yes, in most cases gestational diabetes goes away after

delivery but 50% of women get Type II diabetes later in life as a

result. I am just praying my test was a fluke and next weeks will

come back normal! I am trying really hard not to worry until I get

the test results back!

Your dh is a crack up! The baby will probably be a girl because he

said that! hee hee!

Have a good weekend,
