Hi Jana - Sorry to hear about your Mom's trouble. I, too, experienced

a nose bleed every so often during my treatment (5fu/leuk/oxali). I

can't remember the reason why this happened (I did inquire) but it

went away and I think this is a common side effect.

I know that the 5fu was really upsetting to my stomach. I took Pepcid

and that seemed to help with the stomach trouble. Maybe your Mom can

give this a try? A friend of mine who is an oncology nurse recommended

this to me and it seemed to work as well as or maybe even a little

better than some of the prescription stomach meds I tried.

Good luck! :)

Jana- I too have a bit of a crusty slightly bloody nose with 5-FU

and now Xeloda, but nothing major. 5-FU can cause mucositis-

irritation of mucous membranes, and that includes the mouth and

nose. It took 3-4 wks before I started getting this.

Ativan helped me with occasional intestinal cramping that I have

had. I am already on Previcid for gastroesophageal reflux which I

have had for years. I would let the oncologist know about the side

effects. They may want to alter the dosages of drugs, however.

Hope things go better,

Kris
