Guest guest
Hi, I was diagnosed with GD before I became pregnant. Used ATDs started on TAP and was switched to PTU when they found I was pregnant. We didn't think we could have anymore children since I unsuccessfully had tried for years to get pregnant. So was surprised at 40. I was switched to the PTU and started on 600 mg. daily and gradually reduced. Couldn't tell you exactly what antibody tests that were run because I made the mistake of not getting copies. I was gradually reduced to either 100 mg. or 50 mg. of PTU. My doctors were all in the same hospital and worked together to watch things. They did 4 ultrasounds. I've recently switched to the D.O. that had started treating me 2.5 months before I became pregnant. He had put me on a beta blocker and had me feeling good after the heart rate went down. My pregnancy had other unrelated GD problems. Currently I've tried to get lab tests released to my D.O. but they only released recent ones. He said probably because my file is so big. So this winter when I go to my ob/gyn I know that he will have copies of my labs made for me. With weekly checkups during my pregnancy we became very close. I went to a big medical center and went to my weekly checkups at one of the suburb centers instead of the main campus which was another 45 to 60 minute drive depending on traffic. When I get the labs I will let you know what kind of test were run. I saw my endo once a month, but my ob/gyn watched for different signs weekly when I saw him. I had a beautiful healthy baby boy after spending the pregnancy in bed, not GD related. FOR ELAINE AND EVERYONE: Since July 2000 I've been off ATDs and my levels have tested normal range. I go for bloodwork in Sept. again. Wanted everyone to know my last blood test I showed a 1.89 on the TSH, it had been low enough they couldn't detect it before. This is the first test in years that my TSH was detectable. Debbie R.
