Guest guest
Hi , I am on 125 of synthroid and what I found with my doc is that they are clueless when it comes to the thyroid. He had got me up to 100 and said that was sufficient and I still felt like ..... so if he wasn't going to do I would do it for myself. Not that I recommend doing that, it was just that I had reached the end of my rope. I cut a 100 into four and took 1/4 along with a 100 and things felt a little better. Mind you, I had to peel him off the ceiling when I finally told him but the blood test he did was fine. I have taught my doc things that I have learned here as we are living it and they only see this rarely. They are taught that that one little pill will get the thyroid back into shape and that means everthing else goes back to the way it was. Oh for them to live in our shoes for a month, then we would see a difference. Have you got your test results? If so then put them up here as there are so many that can tell you how much you should be getting and if you can get them all of the blood tests. Dawn > > Just got back from the dr. Guest guest
, most docs are not knowledgable about thyroid disease... Also, please say no to Meridia---- that is bad news! The weight and hairloss are symptoms of thyroid disease..... Have you thought about Armour? Please find a doc that will treat your thyroid disease more knowledgably...... , Proud Group Co-owner DR wants to put me on Meridia! > > > Just got back from the dr. Guest guest
, sorry to be sounding really harsh.. but it's because he's clueless as to how to treat low thyroid... hair loss, depression, brain fog, fatigue, weight gain or extreme difficulty in maintaining or losing weight and many more are symptoms of low thyroid. Docs that don't know how to properly treat and/or follow the dictates of the pharmaceutical companies pushing more and more drugs to mask symptoms instead of the root cause of the problem will not work on getting thyroid hormone doses to the point of normal blood levels... and start pushing other medications just to shut you up... Now... that out of my system... I think it's VERY important to find out which tests he's been taking and the results.... 50 mcg is probably doing no more than suppressing any thyroid function that you may still have.. it's not going to make you feel better and most likely your symptoms will not improve... Taking the other medications aren't going to help much either if the root cause is still low thyroid hormone levels.. If this doc isn't willing to treat your thyroid condition PROPERLY it may be in your best interest to find a doctor that will... IMHO of course. An additional comment on weight. Low thyroid hormone levels means low metabolic rate.... Low metabolic rate means decreased caloric requirements. Skipping meals in an effort to reduce calorie intake triggers the body into reducing metabolic rate even more, and therefore reducing caloric requirements even more AND insufficient calorie intake also reduces T4 to T3 conversion resulting in a more severe hypo state and again lowering the metabolic rate even more. The best way to lose weight is to optimize thyroid hormone levels and to encourage a high metabolic rate through regular lite meals.... affectionately referred to here as mini-meals.... Guest guest
If your doctor can say these things to you, then he/she does not have a basic understanding of thyroid disease. Find another doctor, one who does understand. DR wants to put me on Meridia! > > > Just got back from the dr. Not feeling (or looking any better on > the current dose of Synthroid (50mcg).
