Guest guest
– I am not sure if this is what is going on with you, but a few years ago, I was having very strange breathing episodes at night. I would wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air, like I was choking, and I would run to the bathroom to get a drink of water (while basically still sleeping). This would happen 2 sometimes 3 times a night. It was almost like a panic attack while sleeping. I had a sleep study done, hoping it would happen while I was there, and of course – it didn’t. This has not happened to me for a while, so I’m not sure if it was thyroid related or what. I’m on 100 mcg of Synthroid so maybe it’s actually working for me. 25 mcg is a very low dose – why do they even bother? I’m sure your new labs will show that 25 is doing squat for you, other than making you worse and exhausted, no wonder you are depressed!!. What were the results of your sleep study? (I think you had one, right?). Carol From: Sent: Monday, December 06, 2004 12:16 PM To: The_Thyroid_Support_Group Subject: breathing/sleep issues I would like to hear from those who had breathing issues especially at night while trying to sleep. Did you awake out of breath? Did you fall asleep, dream and wake up 5mins later, and then repeat the process for hours? I am looking for a ray of hope here. I am still on 25mcgs of Synthroid (been on that dose for one month). I just had my blood drawn Friday and will know where I stand. I am sure he will increase my Syn as 25 is very low. I have been very depressed today. I feel like I want to sit in a corner and cry my eyes out. I don't know if it is not having enough meds or sadness over my situation. I hope all of the S**T is from the meds not being right instead of some other problem. It has been going on for about 3 months. A got maybe 3hours sleep last night. All adrenal tests are normal, even the pupil test, bp test, and scratch test. P.S. I am fat, but I don't snore much and I am not loud when I do...so I have been told. Guest guest
Carol, The study is set for the 14th. I already thought that it will probably occur on a good night. But we shall see. They started me on 25mcgs because I could not handle any Armour. I am one of the few people that actually started on Armour not Synthroid. The doc wants to go slowly with me because of how I did on the Armour. I agree that I probably need to increase. I asked the doc on the phone last week if I should increase, he said to wait until my visit on 12/9. My blood was drawn last Friday. I hope this lack of sleep and breathing thing goes away, it really sucks!!! > - > > I am not sure if this is what is going on with you, but a few years ago, I > was having very strange breathing episodes at night. Guest guest
I went as high as 1gr with much difficulty. However, 1/4 gr bothered me too. gary > > > - > > > > > > I am not sure if this is what is going on with you, but a few years > > ago, I > > > was having very strange breathing episodes at night. I remember it being mentioned here on the group and for some reason I think it was connected with you. Sleep apnea sufferers don't necessarily snore. I have to admit that I voted in the poll that my sleep patterns were horrible, but I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 5 years ago, way after my dx. with hypothyroidism, so any improvement in my sleep affected me big time. I'm sleeping like the proverbial baby most of the time now that I'm treated for the apnea. I never wake up 2 or 3 times to go pee anymore. I might wake up early once every 2 or 3 months and have to go to the bathroom. Before, I'd get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night 2 or 3 times and fall asleep on the toilet, then wake up about 30 - 45 minutes later with my legs numb from lack of circulation. I got so bad, I'd sit on the side of the bed and then fall off the bed when I'd go back to sleep. I noticed my sleeping patterns breaking a bit in the last year since we've moved. I attributed it to the disturbance in moving and having to get used to sleeping next to the main living area where it's noisy, but I've been sleeping through the noise most days since I've switched to the natural thyroid. I usually only wake up now when my Mom and sister have an argument or Mom decides she needs to ask my sister something while my sister is still upstairs in her bedroom, so she hollars up the stairs. I've finally gotten Mom to close my bedroom door in the mornings when she gets up, and that helps. Not that I've helped much, mostly just rambled. Just consider asking for a sleep study if you haven't had one. ===== Kathy >^,,^< KitzCat146@... http://www.chaytongroup.com/modernbill/order/index.php?aid=ka081104 http://www.heartwarmers4u.com/members/?kitzcat kitzcat2001 on Yahoo Messenger kitzcat on MSN Messenger In a cat's eyes, all things belong to cats. - English Proverb __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Asthma attacks can do this, and some asthma attacks, while lying on the back can be caused by acid reflux. I have seen this discussed by some medical authorities. They seem to be very subtle because they may not be accompanied by the wheeze and may be more serious than one with the wheeze, as in the bronchial tubes may be even more closed when this is going on, than when they are still pretty much open and make the more musical sound of a partially closed airway. Also, I know just said that his cortisol was normal, but a short while back he said that he had high cortisol, so what's up with the change on that, I wonder? Also, there is hyperventilation syndrome, which can happen in the middle of the night, if the breathing pattern is thrown off by sympathetic nerve impulses from whatever---a dream, anxiety, the autonomic nervous system being thrown off by physical ailments of whatever cause. These are some causes, but I can't really guess, as it could be myriads fo things.
