Amy R.,

You are right about what you said. I know because I tend to sleep on my back. But it can also cut off the blood flow to the baby - so it's really not good. I had to sleep with a wedge behind my back so I wouldn't roll over in my sleep. It was very uncomfortable, but worth it.

-sleeping on back

It isn't recommend that pregnant women sleep on their backs or lay reclined on their backs for long periods of time...I believe after week 15 is the cutoff point I remember hearing. The reason is that when you lay on you back you are putting pressure on the vein that carries blood between your legs and heart. Some women apparently even get lightheaded from this when the lay on their backs for a period of time.-AmyR

According to what I've read the left (I think) side is the ideal side

to sleep on for various reasons. But I was just reading something

else today (wish i could remember where) that said focusing on which

side you sleep on is not completely necessary. Good thing for me bc

I had to sleep on my right side after came in my room in

the middle of the night last night. It was either that or get kicked

in the stomach. Honestly, I think this is a decision best left made

by your dr and yourself. Just bc the complications cannot be decided

just by what you read in a book... I think all of our drs are who

know best in this situation. Now, I'm not saying that any of us

should go out and schedule an appt for Monday morning... just if it

worries you make an effort to stay off of your right side at night

until you do speak w/ your dr about it... Hey! Maybe we can all let

each other know what our drs say about it. Anyway, it just seems

like we are giving out all of this potentially scary info and one of

us could possibly freak out over the thoughts. Then if the dr tells

us we were not getting a good nights sleep for no reason I think we

might be a little more upset over that precious sleep time wasted.

Just my thoughts...

,

I think it is definately a good idea to start getting adjusted to

different sleeping habits. I'm sorry last night didn't go well for

you. Fortunately for me I've always been a side sleeper and in order

to go to sleep I need to be on my left side...throughout the night I

flop back and forth from side to side though. I will have to try to

be more of a constant leftie!

Elle, I'm glad that you and Jo-Ann agreed. I was afraid I was going to take a beating on that one. :o) I wasn't trying to say that this wasn't important, just that I was afraid it was going to get someone to worrying way too much. Glad that someone else felt the same way!! :o) Amy Re: -sleeping on back Amy,You make a very good point! elle > According to what I've read the left (I think) side is the ideal side > to sleep on for various reasons. Amy,

You are so right! We all worry enough! We're all here for support,

not medical opinions that we aren't qualified to give.

I asked my dr. He said after 20 weeks to " try " not to sleep on your

back. After " 30 " it is important not too. Either side is fine

according to him. I have read that the left side is best for blood

flow, especially with complications.

Practice because it is hard to change your sleeping preference!

Thanks ,

Doctors give varied opinions on that topic. Most say that when it's time to

change position, you'll know. Hey, people had babies 100's of years ago

without all the advise we have today so there must be some natural instinct

involved!
