Guest guest
> How long ago were you diagnosed with Diabetes and how did you feel when you were? 10/6/01... and I wept. For hours. (They'd admitted me to the hospital because there was some question regarding my heart, as I'd come into the ER with chest pains.) I thought my world was ending. I was in mortal terror of going blind, losing my extremeties, having my kidneys fail. And then I started reading and researching, because I wasn't going to go blind if I could help it. Diabetes has been good to me. I've lost weight and I'm in better shape than I've ever been in. It's hard with no health insurance and a low income, but I'm managing. Diabetes isn't cureable (yet), but it is manageable. Jae Type II

Mentally I felt angry, but at myself, for being so overweight, and " bringing " this on myself earlier than it may have happened without the extra pounds. But the outlook that the dx can make you healthier, is the best way to see it! gail

I'd been expecting it, since I'm from a diabetic family and have been overweight since teen years. When I was diagnosed I was in the 600 range. Always tired, urinating all hours of the night. Constantly thirsty and drinking water and FULL sugar soda all day long. I'd been tested several times in the past (10 years Military). I knew in the back of my mind that I had finally -turned-. I was also down a bit in weight. I was almost 400lbs a year or so before. I was down to around 300lbs at the time. At 400 I had a touch of apnea. It would wake me up at night several times. Between that and the frequent urination, I wasn't getting much sleep at all. I was also beginning to *snort* when I breathed in the daytime. That's the main reason I began to lose the weight. I was at a street fair that had a van that did hearing, blood, and vision tests free for people. When they tested me and saw I was at 600 they asked if I was diabetic (Doh!). Actually they wanted to know if I knew. So, I went out and bought a meter. I tested for the next couple of months. Always high. Above 400 and usually in the high 500 range. Still in denial though. =) I had a slight work injury and when I went to the hospital I took the meter with me and that is the beginning of my treatment. It just added insult to injury. Tracie Type 2, D & E Diag. 9/
