Guest guest
Hi , When you swim, is there a cap that goes over the catheter? Is that catheter hard to change? I have been thinking alot about the pump since you told me a woman you knew had a transplant and the pump helped her to regulate her blood sugars better even with the prednesone. Guest guest
The tubing that goes from the pump to where your catheter is connected disconnects at certain point. Where the catheter is actually inserted, there is a plastic clear bandage that cover that area so you can shower, swim go into a spay etc. It doesn't hurt to disconnect for up to an hour, especially if you are swimming. They have thought of everything concerning life style Message for about insulin pump Hi , When you swim, is there a cap that goes over the catheter? Is that catheter hard to change? Guest guest
Hi , I don't know if I can do this. I will need to check withmy transplant doctor because of the chance of an opening for an infection and because I'm immune suppressed. Thanks for the info. By the way, what does CCB stand for? You just went for a convention for them. Ruth Message for about insulin pump Hi , When you swim, is there a cap that goes over the catheter? Is that catheter hard to change? Guest guest
It stands for California Council of the Blind. My friend had a kidney transplant and I have another friend with one and he has a pump. There is very little chance of getting an infection if you change the insertion regularly and do what they teach you to do about cleaning the injection site with an IV prep that comes as part of the equipment. But, your doc would definitely need to okay it for you. Message for about insulin pump Hi , When you swim, is there a cap that goes over the catheter? Is that catheter hard to change? Guest guest
Hi , Were your friends experiencing big spikes in the afternoon too because of the prednesone? What are their doses like now? I am on a low carb high fiber diet and even with that I have problems controlling the blood sugars. For example I eat a sandwich withcarb wise bread which has 9 carbs of carb and 9 grams of fiber, plus a piece of fruit, diet pop and I still get wonky sugars in the low teens. From what you told me about your friends, the pump is a good way to handle it. Do you find the pump sticks out a lot? I already have a bit of a swollen tummy from the prednesone (sigh) and I don't want anything that sticks out too much. Thanks again for the info. Guest guest
The one friend died lst summer about 1 & 1/2 years after her second transplant. She had a stroke, but she just had the pump to give her more insulin in the late afternoon when her sugar would rise-or at other times of the day when she learned from frequent BGs when her sugar would go up. My other friend does the same thing. I haven't seen him in a while, so don't know just how well his diabetes is doing, but last I saw him it was under good control. The pumpis about the size of a pager, so it just hooks on your waist band or belt or fits in a pocket. If I am wearing a dress, I put it in my panties. I know one woman who is very boosumy And pumps it in her bra! Message for about insulin pump Hi , When you swim, is there a cap that goes over the catheter? Is that catheter hard to change?
