Guest guest
, With Tyler being 16, stretching his wings a little too much by lying about where he was and staying out all night etc, I have to admit to thinking that at least I won't be dealing with those issues with Dylan. Unfortunately I have the awareness to know that his adolescent issues will just occur in a different form. He is currently on mB12 shots, vitamin D3, multivitamins and minerals, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and is gfcfsf. The mB12 and the diet were both started only about a month ago. He is lately extremely oral - chewing his shirt like crazy, and is now biting people when frustrated. I received a call from his teacher this afternoon, and she told me that he bit her today and it broke skin! I was mortified. He's usually very sweet and gentle. Lately, though, we've been seeing a lot of frustration. I guess, in a way, that's a good sign - he's at least reacting to his environment. He used to be extremely passive.I'm wondering if the biting is due to the shots. I've heard that mouthing and playing with lips happens with the shots. I'm also looking for suggestions to help stop the biting. When he is yelled at and put in " time out " (crash mat, weighted blanket, away from others) for biting, he gets REALLY upset and cries. It doesn't stop the behavior from happening again, though. A chewy tube, maybe?Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Guest guest
I understand what you are saying. I'm really here looking for ideas on WHAT is causing the biting and then I'll have a much better idea on HOW to ease his frustration. In the meantime, I can't just have him biting people. He needs to know that it's not acceptable. He's hurting people. The "time out" is soothing and calming for him. He likes the crash mat and weighted blanket. I don't actually call it time out at home. I should not have to referred to it as "time out" in my last post. It's more of a place for him to calm himself. He just bit my daughter, his twin, as I was writing this. Sigh...Thanks for your input. Guest guest
OK. I was wondering about this. It does tend to happen more before a meal! He's currently taking probiotics, but nothing specifically for a yeast protocol. Is this something I should contact his DAN dr. about? Or can I start giving him something to combat yeast now? Thanks so much for your reply! Lately, though, we've been seeing a lot of frustration. I guess, in a way, that's a good sign - he's at least reacting to his environment. He used to be extremely passive. I'm wondering if the biting is due to the shots. I've heard that mouthing and playing with lips happens with the shots. I'm also looking for suggestions to help stop the biting. When he is yelled at and put in "time out" (crash mat, weighted blanket, away from others) for biting, he gets REALLY upset and cries. It doesn't stop the behavior from happening again, though. A chewy tube, maybe? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Guest guest
Besides from food ibuprofen helps a lot with biting as wellSent from my BlackBerry® wireless deviceDate: Wed, 21 Oct 2009 22:17:08 -0000To: <mb12 valtrex >Subject: Re: Biting Hello! I am sorry for the long post but try to get thru it without sleeping, I had this happen to us and solved it. It is a lot of writing and jumbled due to my lack of sleep since his diagnosis. It sounds like he is in a lot of pain. I waited to begin the shots after (2 1/2 now) was on GFCF for over 3 months (began in Jan 09). But, it is good you are trying everything. What I saw with the shots was an increase in awareness. I actually took my son out of school because of this. Of course I had to quit working days and we are broke but it is only for a short period of time. He mouthed for quite sometime but now it has been over 3 months on the shots and he is doing quite well. He began to speak with the GFCF after a few weeks, not sentences and magic but... words. He is doing a lot better and has language just a year behind his age group. His receptive is 3 year old level which makes life easier. I would give anything for a conversation but as you know we would pay a million dollars to hear mommy and I have that so that is what counts. Sentences will come. I think the aggression and biting is due to MAJOR sensory input, and mouth tingling that can happen when the shots work. Another thing to look at that worked for us was taking out the phenols and going low oxalate with his diet. I also had a hard time getting his school to REALLY go along with the GFCF. They said they did but they still used wheat flour for OT, shaving cream with BHT (excitotoxin) in it and he still got some other kids lunch sometimes (a bite or so) and don't get me started on the playdough. When you begin mb12 the yeast can increase causing these behaviors as well. So taking out yeast feeders can help, but that is hard to do. All I know is that no time-out, weighted vest, " behavioral " intervention helps with physical illness and pain. The " experts " at the schools don't quite get it and will let things slide as far as GFCF exposure and since your child won't go into shock in front of them after a chicken nugget, they think it is OK. But, even with COMPLETE cooperation he can still get some exposures from other kids. Another thing for us was the bubbles, cleaning wipes and cleansers used in the school. One bubble day, a wiped down-contaminated weighted vest and was a crazy person. Drooling, snarling, biting etc... All from chemicals. We are detoxing our kids from gluten and casein which can take 6 to 12 months to leave the system (basically opiates leaving the system) so they are not foggy anymore and the pain they feel in their gut or head can REALLY be felt now without the numbing drugs of G and C. Talk with your DAN about what is happening. This is what we did and is calm and no more biting: 1)GFCFSF2)low phenols (pears instead of apples- google low phenols)3)low oxalates (which made us lower the dose of the D taken with meals (ie: we take D with Calcium away from meals but take calcium with mag at mealtime) binding the calcium with the D before a meal can stop the cal from biding the oxalates in the foods which can lead to more in the blood causing behavioral issues and pain from crystal oxalate formation)4)check that the probiotics and enzymes are made for your child's needs. sometimes too little probiotics or enzymes made for the wrong digestive problems won't do their job correctly. (read up on it at Klaire and Houston Enzymes)5)maybe some advil to help with pain that can happen with inflammation6) check your fish oil, some have too much D if you are already supplementing it and some have soy that can cause issues or some kids can't tolerate the fat absorption because of pancreatic problems. 7) replace the school's OT supplies with GFCFSF (GFCF playdough, rice flour, CAlifornia Baby bubbles GFCF and made in USA most bubbles made in China with their water, 8)chewy tubes, blankets anything to help the funny buzzing in their mouth-for so long our kids have had numb mouth and foggy brain. imagine to be non-verbal and all of a sudden HELLO!!!! INPUT FROM THE PLANET EARTH!!!!!9) I changed the cleansers at the school and our home to be all natural and coconut based. I even show up early to speech and OT and wipe down the room myself with HUggies Natural Care (GFCF) and some Seventh Generation cleansers. Hey, if they think I am crazy, so what? I am way older than them and I have to deal with my kid hours after they poison him with clorox wipes.I know this all sounds like TOOOOO much, but it helps. For a few years our kids have been filled with toxins and now we are dumping them from their systems and helping them to not add more toxins in. In this world that isn't easy. Good luck, sorry about all the info. I really don't do much other than this, keep my family afloat and work nights. Guest guest
for my son the underlying issue was opiate in his diet. removing them stopped the head banging in 24 hours. and impulses calmed. yeast can cause this as well as clostrida which is bactiera. RE: Biting I don't think being yelled at or put in time out is going to help self-injury or aggression. These can become serious behaviors as your child gets older. Rule out pain. Try to help ease his frustration. Guest guest
Hi,Thanks so much for your reply! I see quite a few similarities between our sons. is also saying a few more words since starting the diet and the shots. His receptive language is strong, too, I think. I need to learn a lot more about the phenols, going low oxalate, and removing yeast feeders. Thanks very much for the tips on all of the things at school that can affect him - I had not thought of those, and will definitely buy some natural supplies for them.Thank-you! Hello! (read up on it at Klaire and Houston Enzymes) 5)maybe some advil to help with pain that can happen with inflammation 6) check your fish oil, some have too much D if you are already supplementing it and some have soy that can cause issues or some kids can't tolerate the fat absorption because of pancreatic problems. INPUT FROM THE PLANET EARTH!!!!! 9) I changed the cleansers at the school and our home to be all natural and coconut based. I even show up early to speech and OT and wipe down the room myself with HUggies Natural Care (GFCF) and some Seventh Generation cleansers. Hey, if they think I am crazy, so what? I am way older than them and I have to deal with my kid hours after they poison him with clorox wipes. I know this all sounds like TOOOOO much, but it helps. For a few years our kids have been filled with toxins and now we are dumping them from their systems and helping them to not add more toxins in. In this world that isn't easy. Good luck, sorry about all the info. I really don't do much other than this, keep my family afloat and work nights. Have a great week and it is a good thing to see changes, even if they are horrible (biting). He is waking up. Guest guest
Hi there, My middle son had this and it went away with a change in diet from gf/cf to SCD without sugar, phenols, yeast or casin. I think it was the yeast. Hes not done any of that in 2 years. These can become serious behaviors as your child gets older. Rule out pain. Try to help ease his frustration. When he is yelled at and put in "time out" (crash mat, weighted blanket, away from others) for biting, he gets REALLY upset and cries. It doesn't stop the behavior from happening again, though. A chewy tube, maybe?Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
