Guest guest
Hi , I think it depends upon what stage of Hashi's the person Thyroid is in, as well as, how badly managed their medical treatment was. For me, my thyroid no longer functions, no I did not have RAI. My body has just gotten to the point where the Antibodies took out the Thyroid...its there, just not functioning any more. And nothing that was done to it was able to jump start it. This was determined via multiple blood tests, MRI's, uptakes, ultrasounds, etc...I got tested, every test on the books, while the insurance company was willing to pay for the tests... (I am at least 15 years into my Hashi's Diagnosis. I suspect Hashi's was present in my life when I was 9 or 10...due to unexplained weight swings this makes it over 30 years present in my life.) Guest guest
How much most folks take depends on what the doc prescribes.. .most folks are underdosed when prescribed synthetics by docs that aren't adjusting by symptoms and/or proper levels of thyroid hormone (not just TSH) within ranges. That was what happened with me.... I was held at 200 mcg even though my weight continued to shoot up, no adjustments were made even though there was weight increase or increase in number and severity of symptoms.. I was told that that was the highest dose made so they couldn't prescribe more than that. Going by the general guideline that full replacement dose is approximately 1 mcg per pound of body weight I should have been getting around 350 mcg... add to that that I've discovered that I'm a lousy converter, they should have been giving me even more... and add to that that they told me to take it with food to ease the stress to my stomach....... any wonder why I ended up on crutches? Any thoughts?

Guest guest
Hi , Some of us take our Synthroid once a day because it is the way that the pharmicutical(sp?) company told us to take it, and the Pharmacy and the Doctor. If taking it twice a day works for you, then stick with it.... Gossimer > > > > > > Enter your vote today! Guest guest
Hi gossimer and topper, I was just reading the synthroid INSERT and it does say to take it once a day. The ONLY reason my doc told me to take it twice a day was because of the problems that I had with Armour. So this morning I took 3/4 of my dose and will take 1/4 of my afternoon dose and see how I do. If that works out I will take it once a day as that is far more convenient for me. Interested note those is that my free T3 has been hovering around 305 give or take a point. I have been on synthroid now since Nov 2004 and started at 25 mcgs. I am now at 85mcgs. Other than some minor problems, I think I am doing quite well. I would like to see my Free T3 higher. Do you know how to get the Free T3 higher without taking natural or synthetic T3? I am already taking 100mcgs of selenium. Thanks, > > > > > > > > > Enter your vote today!
