Well Ladies, I made it back from the 7 hour round-trip visit to my RE. I

always feel so good about things when I visit him! I was there for 3 hours

(yes 3) and never did I have to wait more than 5 minutes between doctors,

nurses and procedures! My RE who is the director of the ART program at our

teaching hospital was with me for at least and hour and a half of that

time! Talk about getting the most for your money...I looked at my billing

slip on the way out and he only charged me (in addition to my blood tests

and u/s) for a minimum (15 min) appt!

Anyway, here's the lowdown....

He read through all of my recent tests, etc. He wondered why that E2 (or

was is Estridol?)and FSH hadn't ever been tested. Luckily, I am on day 2

of my cycle, so I got those done. He was also very against using my

Clomid, or any other fert. drugs in my particular case. He said with the

measurements of my little uteri, a singleton will be equivalent to 2 and a

half babies in a regular uterus, so he wants to avoid any additional risks

if at all possible. (my had OB ordered a course of Clomid (prior to any IF

testing) back in January, which I opted not to take. He said some fert.

drug may be inevitable, but he wants to rule out everything else first.

He said for now we would assume that it is not my MA that is keeping me

from conceiving, other than the fact that intercourse only on the right

side may be slowing things down a bit and we would assume that there is

another reason, or that I am just what they term " sub-fertile " - someone

who will eventually conceive, just take longer doing it. He was also put

off by the fact that my OB has advised me to time intercourse for the

evening AFTER a temp rise and suggested IUI after OV as well. He said I

would never get pg that way! Mind you, I didn't offer him this info, he

read it in her office notes.

He has also ordered a post-coital test. He said he usually does not do

these, but since we are avoiding the usual course of events (drugs) it

would be a good idea, especially with my reports of lack of fertile

CM. Beth (you are so smart), he also told me not to worry too much about

my noticeable fertile-quality CM or lack there of - stating that there is

often much more, better quality CM present at the cervix, even if it

doesn't drop down.

He did a trans-vag u/s to check for any presence of endo or other problems

and everything looked good. He did offer a lap/hyst as an option to

further explore, but advised against the procedure at this time. His plan

is to get all of the above mentioned test results back and A) if the post

coital comes back bad, go forward with at least 3 rounds of natural

IUI B) if all comes back good I have the option to continue to try the

old-fashioned way for another 4-6 cycles and then move on to natural IUI if

unsuccessful, then if still not pg, try a lap/hyst.

DH and talked it over and we decided that if we have the choice we will try

to conceive naturally for a few more months if the tests come back fine,

with the stipulation that if my emotional well being gets too bad, we will

move on to IUI immediately. He's a doll....his first question when I got

home was " Well, what do they think? " (he meant you ladies; he appreciates

you all almost as much as I do!)

I was just so impressed! Everyone was wonderful and willing to listen to

and answer all of my questions! Right now I am kind of in limbo, waiting

for the E2 and FSH results and the post-coital around labor day. But I

feel like I am DOING something! And, I did get to go

shopping! Unfortunately, I spent most of my time shopping for other

people's babies-to-be. (Even though I am forgoing showers for now, I still

feel like I should send a gift) :-)

All in all, a good day.

Thanks again ladies.....I don't know where I would be now without you!

UD, ttc for 17 mos and feeling more like herself again!

He's right! What would possess a doctor to say something like that?

, I think the new RE sounds great. I'm glad you have a plan now and dh

is supporting you.

Good luck,

wow, what a great appointment. What a great team! Too bad you are

so for away--otherwise I'd ditch going to the OB for now and just go

to this RE!! :)

I wish I had some imput that would help you, but it seems you have

thought through things pretty well. I think trying naturally if you

have the time and are emotionally still stable is a good idea if the

tests indicate " nothing " is wrong. Can you tell what side you

ovulate on (I mean, do you already know when a month is bust because

the egg is on the side with no sperm?) This would save some

heartbreak to know that. Remember, though, that there is nothing

wrong with having IUI either--I would move on to IUI if that's what

you feel would help you. I know how sick I made myself this 2ww. I

guess one gets better at it, and you seem very stable, but I agree

with your dh in that. The moment it becomes too much for you, back

for the IUI. Would you consider doing IUI on the months that the egg

is on the wrong side and au natural on the good egg months? Just a

thought. I don't know if your right uterus can handle a baby or not,

maybe your left is bigger?? can't remember, so sorry!!!

Best of luck and let us know,

Jill

What a productive appt! So glad they made it worth your long drive and made you

feel comfortable and more like yourself again. You deserve that. Sounds like

your DH is a wonderful support. Maybe now that you are more at ease you will be

able to conceive au natural! Sending au natural vibes your way!

Jill-

Distance is one of the reasons that we might be willing to try au

natural for a little while longer. It would mean a lot of driving! I'm

28, so as long as my E2 and FSH come back good, I'm not yet in a race for

time.....DH and I decided that, if given the choice, my emotional well

being will be the deciding factor. I was all set and ready to do a an IUI

this cycle if the RE wanted to....but after talking to him, I feel like I

might be able to hold out for a bit longer.

RE says he would be comfortable with a pg in either uterus, also feels that

my left cervix, though hidden by the vag septum, is well formed and of

normal size. He even mentioned that if I had normal presentation and all

other systems go, he wouldn't discourage a vag. delivery. But he also said

that would ultimately be up to the peri. Unfortunately, no, I can't tell

until I OV what side the action is on.....but I do know after OV if there

is at least fair chance of pg if I OV'd on the right side. RE still says

that though it is improbable, it is possible for the guys to swim over and

fertilize an egg from the left ovary....just seems like a long way to go to

me. :-)

Hopefully I will be right there with you in the 2ww next time....we can

help each other stay sane. :-)

WOW -

You took WAY more than a baby step at your appt!! I'm so happy for

you. Sounds like your RE is a very knowledgeable dr and has a great

plan in order for you and DH. It's too bad that he's so far away,

but it sounds like you did indeed get your moneys-worth.

Good luck with all of your tests. Sending tons of babydust and

postive vibes your way in the months to come!
