Guest guest
Hi Welcome to our group! I am glad you found us. It looks like we are on a similar path, although I think you have had it a few more years than I. What are your current levels? I agree completely with you that it is imperative to live life to the fullest extent possible and not let IgAN dictate who you are! I love your attitude! Guest guest
, We really are very close. I am just a bit more progressed than you are. I am not sure if my last email made sense, but the really important number is more creatinine clearance from a 24 hour test, or even better GFR. As renal failure progresses, creatinine clearance tends to overestimate GFR a bit, but that will give you the most accurate reading. My creatinine clearance as of last June is 32. I have not checked it since then and normally only have a 24 hour once a year. When creatinine clearance gets to around 10-15, that is when you usually need dialysis or a transplant. Hope this clarifies a bit. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to kidneyland. I know that you said that your levels are critical, but do you mind sharing the info? I also believe that it is important to lead a normal life as long as you can. But I also agree that the progression of and tolerance level is different in us all, which is a good thing for us to keep in mind. Welcome aboard. Connie Co-Moderator, USA New to Group Hello everyone! It's good to be a part of a support group again. I have had Igan since 1971 but did not know what it was till a biopsy in 1975.I have had it 28 years and I am just now starting to reach critical levels.I have read some posts on reducing activities and would like to say, don't let it stop you from leading a normal life.I have played sports all my life and still do. Golf, softball, & flag football to name a few.The progression of Igan in everyone is different.I am definately very blessed to have gone this long with good kidney function. This is only my opinion.I am looking forward to reading about all of you and wish you well! But I don't let it stop me. Life goes on.

Guest guest
((((((((((((((((Char)))))))))))))))))))))) Welcome to the group! Properly treated with thyroid hormones, your depression and other probs will get a whole lot better! What you should ask your doc is to be tested for TSH, Free T3 , Free T4, TPO and Anti-TPO. Also iron and ferritin levels. The " frees " are the more accurate tests at telling how well the thyroid functioning is doing.Tpo and Anti-Tpo are tests to see if you have thyroid antibodies , and helps to determine if you have Hashimoto's(which is the number one cause of hypothyroidism)The iron and ferritin tests would help because a lot of us have issues with iron deficiency and other anemias. When you have your tests, please post the results here with the lab ranges. We will help you make sense of the numbers. You may also be one who would do very well on Armour (or natural) thyroid. This contains T4(storage hormone)T3(the one that is used most by the body-- and is said to be the one that helps with depression)T2(said to help with metabolism) T1(brain functioning) and calcitonin(a hormone that moves calcium from theblood into the bones). Guest guest
Hi Char, Welcome to the Thyroid learning group. Please keep in mind that all comments in this group are " In our humble opinions " . None of us are your treating Physician and do not have access to his/her knowledge. We have our own knowledge gained over the years of surviving and living with this disease. Some of us have more medical training than others, however, none of us can speak for you and how you feel and what your body is telling you, thus we ask a lot of educated questions and give you our point of views on what you tell us is going on. With that said,,,once again, Welcome!!! No, you are not going crazy. Depression is one of the many symptoms of Thyroid disease. Some of us are more suspectable to depression than others. For me as I began to reach an optimum dosage for my replacement Thyroid therapy, my depression has gradually lifted. Just like how it crept into my life to begin with. It will take time for your body to slowly regain its balance, and lift the depression, however, there is light at the end of the tunnel! From my personal experience, taking 0.05mg of Levothroid is a beginning dose, however, I would expect this dosage to be raised every 6 weeks until your Thryoird Free T3 and Free T4 blood work shows that your body is getting enough of this hormone to live on. TSH, Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, is the test that a lot of Doctors use to establish if your Thyroid is functioning correctly. This is unfortunate as TSH is produced by the Pituatary gland and not by the Thyroid gland itself. Might I suggest that you read everything that you can get your hands on. Read everything that is in the file section of this group, Topper () and have set up a fantastic web site with a ton of information and links on it... www.thyrophoenix.com Also, go to Shomon's web site and read everything there that you can... thyroid.about.com is a Patient Advocate for Thryoid people and has amassed a great amount of material over the years. Read, Ask us questions, Ask and Teach your doctor on how you want to be treated, tested and medicated and you are on your way to finding the end of the tunnel!!!
