Guest guest
I had carpal tunnel release surgery about 8 years ago on both of my hands. The surgery was successful. I've never had problems since. This was before I was diagnosed with diabetes by several years. I will also say though that I was on Workman's Comp for one year. It took 6 months for each hand going twice a week to a hand therapy clinic to restore full function. It was also a painful period of time recovering. Each person is different in results. I know people who had the surgery who were permanently disabled afterward. Ken GreyEagle -- Carpal Tunnel I have carpal tunnel in both wrists, too. At night I wear wrist splints but in the day I wear Ergo gloves if my hands are bothering me. I also put them on before I start anything which might cause my wrists to hurt. Surgery isn't my first choice either. Lee

Guest guest
I have a fairly mild form of carpal tunnel but when it hits it is painful and annoying...I've found that if I make some adjustments it helps....I was a nurse for a hundred years(seemed like it) and I did a lot of writing....what seemed strange was that my writing on charts didn't bother me but when I would write anything at home..my hand would go numb in just a short time....time to stand back and see what was different...the height of my writing surface seemed to be the difference...and so I was able to avoid some of the discomfort... Then when I got my computer, I could only use my mouse for a few minutes and my hand would be numb...solution..I scooted everything over and used my mouse with my left hand..no more carpal tunned problem with that.....but, using the keyboard was another thing...I tried those cushions that you put in front of your keyboad that are especially designed for it and it just didn't work...so I threw all that my typing teachers had taught me out the window and developed my own hunt and peck technique...holding my hands above the keyboard a sufficient distance to avoid the position that caused the pain and numbness.....my old teachers would frown on the practice but I've learned to do what works for me....I can type pretty fast using my own method now.....and since my computer serves as a word processor, I don't have to worry about using a real typewiter.... One can make adjustments for a lot of other aches and pains if you just sort of observe what you are doing to cause the problem or at least make it worse....my shoulders used to ache when I woke up...I used to sleep on my stomach with my arms under my head..when I realized that might aggravate the pain and made sure I didn't go to sleep in that position, the cure was almost immediate..... So everyone is so different and if something bothers you...take a look and see if something simple wull make it easier to live with....BUT, don't hesitate to talk to your doctor...and don't try anything that might be harmful...one has to use common sense above all else.... Guest guest
I had a very tramautic time with my surgery, because I had scheduled it with time off work, etc. etc., and the night before my surgery, my FIL passed away! My husband urged me to go ahead with the surgery anyway so I reluctantly did. I remember attending the funeral 3 days later with my arm in a sling...I don't remember the recuperation being that painful OR long but I do remember the emotional pain of that time. Also, they had to give me general anesthesia when they hadn't planned on it, because they couldn't get the needle in my vein to give me the local they had planned on...I am a big CHALLENGE when it comes to finding those veins.... maralee
