Yesterday at church someone fed my son Goldfish and Cheesits. He has now

been up since 3 o'clock this morning and is WILD. How do ya'll get it across

to others not to give your child anything? I am thinking of attaching a note

to the back of his shirt next Sunday, and bringing a snack for all the kids.

Yes, I was just looking at it (forgot it was there). I also was told to get

" Is This Your Child " that there are some suggestions in it for convincing

people that food really affects behavior. I'm going to brave it and go to

the HFS and Herb store today, and I hopefully will be able to find this book.

Well, shortly after I wrote the email this morning, I noticed that Damon was

broken out in red bumps all over his back, and private parts. I called a

friend of mine who manages an herb store, and she recommended Newton's

Homeopathic #58 for food sensitivities (it's a detox). It's in alcohol,

which means placing it in a cup and pouring a little boiling water over it

and letting the alcohol evaporate. But after two doses of the Newtons his

speech has returned to normal. He is no longer bouncing off the walls (or

into the walls), but he is crying and sleepy. It's really like someone who

has been on drugs or was drunk and is coming down off the high. I also went

today and purchased " IS This Your Child. " I'm going to show Damon's Sunday

School teacher the pictures of the kids in this book, and say " LOOK, see what

food allergies can do to kids!! "

I have a mind to holler at everyone not to feed my son. We had a birthday party

for Connor and Shelby on Saturday at our house. My SIL brought Cheerios for her

daughter and she and my MIL sat there and fed them to Connor while I was in

another room! My MIL has read Karyn's book, knows about the diet, etc., etc.

They

asked if he could have more and I practically screamed " More?!! He's not

supposed

to have ANY!!! " . Hello!!! What has she been feeding him when he goes to her

house? My dh said he sat in my FIL's lap for a bit and wouldn't talk or look at

him. He had a dreamy look on his face. He was better that afternoon. He has been

laughing and crying just out of the blue. His ABA therapists have had a

difficult

time today. I hope this passes soon. Any doubts I had about the diet are gone!

Boy can I sympathize with you! My son went to my MIL's a week ago saturday.

Well, she didn't bother to put away the no, no food and he grabbed a box of

cheerios out of the cabinet. He asked if he could have some and she said,

" No " . Well apparently he through a fit, and she felt bad, so she gave him

15! Her words were, " I only gave him 15! " I'm like, " He can't have any,

none, zip - zilch! I told her that if she couldn't guarantee me that this

food will be kept out of reach, than he could not spend time in her home. I

told her if he has a fit, so what! He'll get over it. I go out of my way

to supply her with every possible food substitute, only to have her cause

infractions! Well, that night he layed on the floor screaming, " pop tarts " !

over and over again. Obviously, that was his favorite gluten high! Funny

how a small bit of gluten can make them crave their old favorites.

Donalyn, I absolutely stick a sign on the backs of both of my little

ones. I put their names and then I put " I CANNOT HAVE HI-HO'S, I'M

ALLERGIC - SPECIAL CRACKERS IN BAG " . BTW, Hi-Ho's are like ritz crackers

that they pass out in church every Sunday morning. And believe me, if

you've ever worked in the 18 mos - 2 yr. room snack time is essential to

survival in there!! I always tell the workers, which are usually the

same every week during the Sunday School hour, but then change to

volunteers during the service hour. Then I check back in between and

tell the new workers just in case the 1st crew forgot. Not that it would

be easy to miss my 6 inch, very attractive label, but you can never be

too safe. Hope that helps!!

I sure hope it's not the Corn Pops - I finally got my son " in " to corn pops

since there were not that many yummy cereal options. Then I read about the

possible cross-contamination. How worried should we be about this? It is

agonizing to be scared of a (slight? possibly non-existent?) threat. What

do all of you think? (not just about Corn Pops, but about the

cross-contamination of any food).

Janine,

Was the tylenol liquid or chewable? I believe that most children's

chewable tablets contain gluten. One safe analgesic that I know of is

Junior Advil *pills*. I had the pharmacist check with the company for me.

The chewables are not GF.
