Guest guest
Hi, Mike, I did see small groups (not enough to be a flock) of black ducks moving north. They would stop for a short feed, then move on. Don
Guest guest
Dumb Ducks! Going north for the summer during the winter!? I have noticed that our two LARGE flocks of Canadian geese (about 300 to 400 in each flock here around the rivers in Logansport) have begun to disappear. I do believe they are beginning to nest. Strange. Nature goes on with its business even if we think we should be in out of the cold. I think I would like to be a duck or a goose. Unfortunately, the past two years, the rivers have flooded and we have seen no young goslings or ducklings around here. The only young ones I have personally seen are Wood Ducks. They nest in tree holes above the ground and water level. When they think it is time for their young to learn to swim, they push them out of the nest. Some of the nests I have seen are at least 40-50 feet in the air. Maybe that's why I don't see many baby Wood ducks anymore.
