Steve always goes for around the same area of the thigh....lol Last Wed I told him to aim for a different area please....lol He knows to get a different area each time, but his memory is worse than mine I think sometimes....lol I';m very grateful he gives me the shots though! Don't get me wrong! Shirls -- Re: Veins Denny's weekly interferon shots leave wonderful red lumps for a couple of weeks, too. We use different areas of his thigh (left only, we don't use his right because of his hip replacement) and his arms. LOL--remind Steve to rotate, you don't need a sterile abscess from an injection on top of everything else. We write it in a notebook so we know where we gave the last one. I hate it when it hurts though. He feels bad. But I tell him it's not his fault. The ph balance is high and some days it hurts big time. Shirls -- Re: interferon shots Yeah, I think I did know that. Have Steve try to do the injection part very slowly and massage the area gently for a minute after the needle is out, sometimes that helps. Guest guest Posted August 13, 2003 Report Share Posted August 13, 2003 I think some days my muscles are tight due to spasticity and that doesn't help things. I use an ice compress when we're done. It hurts the muscle enough that I limp afterwards. It's strange. I take Tylenol and hour before. I really thinks he gets the medicine on the tip of the needle. He's too occupied on getting the bubble out....lol I'll watch him close tonight and see what he does. I've told him there has to be a bubble in there to push the med out....lol He pulls the site tight and that helps. It has to be the ph balance of the med. Avonex is higher than others for some reason. Maybe when we get to start the new needle that all ready has the med pre-mixed it will be better. Thanks for your advice. I'll take any you have!!! I'm getting headaches now after the injections. Day after headaches. Keep taking the Tylenol, about all I can do. We did 2 things that helped: use emla cream (not a misprint and a lot of people never heard of it.... we got a prescription for it and got it through walmart but you can get it over the counter if you can find it) and put that on about 30 minutes before the injection. The I used Bactine wipes and held one to the spot after the injection to stop the pain. I still use the bactine wipes with my humira shots now but I ice it for 30 minutes before the shot instead of using the emla cream. Lazy day> > Today has been a complete bust.
