Last fall, I was getting a box out from under the bed and I felt something pull in my arm. It didn't bother me anymore until after Christmas. I would wake up in the morning with it hurting and some days it would hurt all day. Finally, I went to the doctor. She gave me Naproxen and told me if that didn't help, she would give me the cortisone shot. I think using my arm, exercising it did more good than the Naproxen. Still can't reach behind my back, but it is getting better. I can unzip my skirt now. Almost can unhook my bra, so I'm just hanging in there, hoping it will get better. Very seldom does it hurt anymore in the mornings and never during the day. Hope your arm will get better so you don't have to take the shots. hugs Eunice I

Hi Terry, My arm would hurt between the shoulder and elbow, though no problem moving the elbow. One of the exercises my doctor told me to do was " walk up the wall with my fingers as far as I could go " . The pain started sometime in January. It was worse in Jan/Feb, then started getting better. I have 2 friends that have the same problem. I have read somewhere that this can be caused by diabetes and it can take several months to heal. Both of my friends have diabetes. Geneva did get the cortizone shot. It helped for a few days, then the pain was back. hugs Eunice

Thanks! He did tell me that I could begin light exercise when he gives me an okay. The bursa is in the shoulder, where the bones come together. It is like a little pad that keeps them from bumping into each other, if that makes sense. It is moving the upper arm that is difficult. Bending the elbow is no problem. I hate stuff like this! How long has yours been out-of-whack? Guest guest
Eunice, I have had lots of trouble with my right arm for 2-3 years. A MRI last year showed a torn rotator cuff. It does get a lot better and then will return. Sometimes it actually hurts more when I am in bed than any other time. My husband appears to have the same thing but hasn't been to the doctor. They wanted to give me a shot but I turned it down. Sometimes they help and sometimes they don't. Right now it is much better. The doctor says that at any time, it could completely tear into. A friend is doing upper body exercise with 5 lb weights and she says hers is healing up but she is working with a good trainer at the YMCA.
