Guest guest
Maybe I just have bad luck with doctors! lol I had tests when I first consulted with him (ones I did myself plus a complete workup from my GP), so maybe that's why he never suggested them. Also, I *think* he likes to keep things as natural/drug free as possible. He had me taking sea salt, so he might have wanted to just stick with that since it was helping me. I don't think he would have given me Florinef if I did test low. He wouldn't even give me HC, just Isocort (which I really didn't understand because there is HC in Isocort...) Also, I got better fairly quickly after I started consulting with him, so maybe if I'd gotten worse he would have ordered tests. Yes, it was strange, but he NEVER once requested a test! I would just say " I'm going to do tests this week " and he'd repond, " Oh, it that case, make the next appointment in XXX weeks. " I'm not sure what stage of AI I was in. I got my tests from ZRT and they don't tell you. I don't really like ZRT because the range is so dang narrow, it's hard to tell anything. But here are my orginal labs back in 2004: AM Cortisol--blood 10 (4 - 22) -- Can you believe they think 4 is normal???!! 4x Saliva Cortisol morning 6.4 (3-8) noon 1.7 (2-4) evening 1 (1-2) Night .9 (.5 - 1.5) Do you know what stage this was? I know it doesn't look very bad for the salvia tests (I think) but the blood AM draw is awful IMO. At any rate, I improved IMMENSELY on 8 pellets Iscort and the sea salt, plus Vitamins C and B5. However, I would still get crashes under stress and could not tolerate thyroid hormones even though my labs showed I was hypo and I FELT hypo. That's when I stopped with Dr. Rind and started HC on my own, 20 mg. I felt tons better on the HC, so I don't think 8 pellets Iscort equals 20 mg HC at all. I am currently on 30 mg HC. (I got onto this high of a dose due to being on Armour when I have high rt3 and getting BAD AI symptoms. I was at 45 but have weaned down. I am not sure whether I need this much HC or can get back down to 20. I am going to try to get back to 20 and see how I feel and whether I can still tolerate the t3 I am taking.) Kathleen > > Kathleen - I am suprised with Dr. Rind not suggesting tests, especially the Aldosterone which you were low in! Usually, with your first consult, the doctor orders tests, so I'm baffled as to why he didn't. Do you know what stage of adrenal fatigue you were in? How much HC are you taking now? > > >
Guest guest
I had my lab test through Diagnos-Techs and their cortisol lab ranges are much broader than ZRTs. I wonder how accurate it could be with such narrow ranges. It's like you don't know how bad you really are. I can't help you with figuring out what stage you are in. Maybe Val can help or somebody. I was at roughly stage 4 and just increased my hc last week to 30mg. Feeling good but let's see how long it lasts. It seems that two weeks after increasing, it stops working and I need more, everytime. I hope it levels off at 30. Feeling pretty darn good right now. I'm due for saliva testing again soon, so I was thinking on trying Dr. who does phone consults and works for Diagnos-Techs. Have you heard anything about him. I heard that he does both saliva and blood for thyroid hormones at the same time. I really like this approach and he understands how to test on HC to see if it's an effective dose. So this makes him rather unique but I wonder about the Aldosterone test and whether he understands how to look at the BIG picture of hormone balancing. keickholt13 wrote: Maybe I just have bad luck with doctors! lol I had tests when I first consulted with him (ones I did myself plus a complete workup from my GP), so maybe that's why he never suggested them. Guest guest
Yes, the narrow ranges bother me, but someone else posted their ZRT ranges here recently and it appears they changed the range. AM top of the range is now 9. something and the other ranges are different, too. I just looked at my notes on the test and apparently I was taking 20 mg of adrenal exttact 2 days before the test! I remember now that my homeopath had given it to me, but it was whole adrenal and made me feel hyper-probably had adrenaline in it. Anyway, I wonder if it messed the test up and I was worse than it indicates b/c I wasn't on anything for sure for the blood test. That's great news that you're feeling great on 30! Maybe that is your magic dose. I don't know if this might happen with adrenals, but for awhile, I had this phenonemom with thyroid meds where I'd take a dose and it would crash my TSH within a few days, so I had to keep increasing. I know it's normal for this to happen, but it kept happening fast. It never happened in the past and it's not happening now, so I have no idea what was going on. ANyway, I wonder if something similar with the HC for you--your pit senses the HC and turns down the ACHT maybe too much to compensate so you end up needing more. I have not heard of this happening as it does with thyroid, but hopefully you will level off now. HOw much HC were you on before? Are you on thyroid meds, too? I ask because I am on 32.5 right now and trying to wean back to 20, but my BP is not dropping from lying to standing position for the first time! I'm not saying I need 32.5, but maybe 20 isn't quite enough for me, especially on thyroid meds. I will keep doing the BP test, temp graphing and I would like to try the glucose monitoring test that Val wrote about. I'm hoping all these will help me find my optimal dose of HC. I don't know anything about Dr. , but he sounds interesting. I am so sick of doctors right now, though, and paying them to listen to my own ideas and research, lol. I think I am just going to go it alone for awhile. I wonder if ANY doctor knows the big picture, sometimes. I have come to realize you have to sometimes take something from everyone and put it togehter for yourself to get better. I learned from maybe 2 doctors I worked with and I've learned from these forums and I feel I'm finally getting to the place where I've learned enough to finally get better! I tried a lot of things the past several months and made myself sick, but I found out what worked and what didn't, so it wasn't a waste. Sorry for rambling! Guest guest
I'm on 3.75 grains. I began on 30mg of HC two days ago and was feeling great until this morning. Very tired again and I took 5mg at bedtime! I won't be checking my temp for another two weeks since it takes up to two weeks for the temps to stabilize from an HC/Armour increase, correct? This is why it's tough to track temps. At that point I may be due for an armour increase and will have to wait another two weeks again. I am checking bloodpressure and pulse and they have never been high, so I guess I'm not taking too much hc for stage 4 which is very suprising since addison patients take this dose. I may consult with Dr. or somebody, once I need testing done again. Mail order Armour is a lot more than if I had a prescription, so this is another reason why I would like to consult. --- keickholt13 wrote: > Yes, the narrow ranges bother me, but someone else > posted their ZRT > ranges here recently and it appears they changed the > range. Guest guest
Val - I don't like the fact that he misleads people in believing he is a doctor. This is very dishonest. If he said that he was one of the biologists that helped develop the tests, then he would still get business because this has value in itself. So you have seen those who tested through him and adjusted their dosage only to get worse? --- wrote: > >>Yes, I know but do you think he is knowledgeable > enough to help us out with adrenals/thyroid?<< > > My biggest problem with Dr is that he does > nto tell folks he is not am MD up front, I als > question the validity of testing while on HC., I > have seen several folks try to use the results and > get very messed up as they drew the wrong > conclusions. Guest guest
>>So you have seen those who tested through him and adjusted their dosage only to get worse?<< Ask this list ther are folks here that have used his methods of testing let them tell their stories. I believe one person thgouht the testing weas valid and it seemed ot work, another it did not. I say luck of the draw adn inconclusive test results. Your results will depend ion when you take youHC dose inrelation tothe slaiva draw. If you spit first before a dose, you will come up low cortisol, if you spit mid dose it will show high. This is the nature of expogenous cortisol. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Some people have found him useful and others have not but that can be said for any doctor.
