Guest guest
Hi Dell, I'd just like to say " congratulations!!! " and to thank you so much for posting your very positive news on this site. It always makes me feel great to hear of a MAJOR success like you've just had. It is indeed a " Christmas miracle " in my book too! I haven't heard too much about Iressa being used w/ FOLFOX, but it is quite encouraging that we are getting more options as time goes on (especially with the new Avastin, which hopefully will be out there soon!) Please don't be shy...keep us up on what is happening with you as we go into the new year. We LOVE hearing good news (of course from anyone - but especially from a stage IV where good news is not always easy to find!) Best Wishes, > I don't usually post on this site. Guest guest
Dell, My mother has the same condition, and is on the same medicines. I just showed her your post. She is having similar results, although she has done 2 cycles, not four. Her tumors are still visible, but have shrunk dramatically. Mom is 71. We were given a " death sentence " by a pessimistic surgeon back in March. She refused to accept it. I at first thought she was in denial, but now I think, like you, that she is particpiting in a miracle. Thanks for sharing your story! MERRY CHRISTMAS! Marsanne > I have colon cancer with liver mets. Guest guest
a, I have found that too, but I also think sometimes their approach backfires. I lost a sister in a car wreck 3 years ago last week, she was 35, and the news of Mom's cancer, which we found out about last March, hit us all very, very hard. The doctors were nothing but doom and gloom. I developed an ulcer and went into a severe depression for about 3 months. Then I started looking at the day to day reality, not the grim picture the doctors had painted. She steadily improved, recovered from her surgery. I am under no delusions about her illness, but neither do I believe the death sentence they handed us. She has already outlived her prognosis. As we speak, Mom has kicked me out of the kitchen (we are making Christmas dinner), because she caught me over-spicing the green bean casserole. She was just joking, of course, but she is still clearly in charge here and it is a delight to see. There are 3 of us within easy driving range and we dote on her. It's a happy day, and we are grateful for our miracle, too, and keeping all of you and your families in our prayers. Marsanne > I have found alog the way with my mom's illness that her Drs tend not to get too excited either... I think they try to keep the patient and family painfully aware of the seriousiness of the disease. Its their job. I think they would rather be wrong or off on the positive side than to give us a false positive, make sense? ]
Guest guest
Dear Dell- Will visit your website but a couple questions: Why, if Iressa is already in use, did you need to go into a trial? How bad were the side effects? and how good shape were you in when you started the trial? You post is a beacon for me (and certainly others); so glad you are getting good results. Katy I have colon cancer with liver mets. The liver tumors were so large > and deep surgery was not an option. I joined the Phase II study at > Stanford and received 5FU/Leu/Oxa with Irresa. Guest guest
Hi there, It is my understanding that Iressa has only been approved for lung cancer. My oncologist at Stanford said there are doctors in the US using Iressa for colon cancer but they put themselves at risk for liability. This is just hearsay so I don't know the actual facts. The side effects of the Iressa were not so bad. My scalp was affected the most. At times I could not lay my head on my pillow due to the pain. Often there was blood on my pillow in the morning. Fortunately the pain was very intermittent and I could deal with it. I think I have had the most severe side effects from the Oxaliplatin. I have constant tingling and numbness in my fingers and my feet are always very cold feeling to me but actually warm to the touch. There was also the obligatory nausea and diarreha. This round of chemo is my second. My cancer reoccurred after only 6 months. I started very strong. Most people say I do not look the least bit ill. I am still very strong so the chemo did not change that. I lost weight but since I am overweight this was not a bad thing. I believe the study has been successful for me. However there is no way we can say Iressa is totally responsible for my positive reaction since I did take Folfox. Regards, Dell > Dear Dell- Will visit your website but a couple questions: Why, if > Iressa is already in use, did you need to go into a trial?
