Guest guest
I am a little concerned about Wild Alaskan salmon. This is a product I eat a couple days a week and it seems to help my MS symptoms. I know already about the pollution but, not knowing my geography, wondering how close the nuclear fallout is to the Alaskan waters?
Guest guest
    I don't know the answer to your question, but you can check the direction of the jet stream at the present time. That would probably give you an idea of where the fallout is going. Unfortunately, since wild salmon swim around the ocean for several years before returning home to spawn, you would probably also have to know where they range.    Dr. Jelinek does recommend eating a lot of fish to get the omega-3s. He feels that they are very important in the MS diet.  However, because of salmon's place on the food chain, he recommends oily sea fish that are further down the chain, such as sardines, anchovies, etc. They're likely to have a lot less pollutants of all types.    He also recommends flax oil, but he says that there is some question about how efficiently the body can use that, compared to fish oil. But if you are really worried about fallout, you can try eating that instead. I put ground flax seeds in all the bread I make.  The addition of a few tablespoons in a loaf doesn't affect the taste or baking at all.    Dr. McDougall doesn't recommend eating fish at all. He feels that one can get everything that one needs from a plant-based diet. He feels fish are too polluted and becoming too scarce to be eaten, so it's partially a philosophical decision as well as a medical one for him. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.
