So I have an appt scheduled > for 5.9.02 with Prof in Sydney (aka 's wonder dr !). I'd go ahead and see Prof, he's fabulous, and, most importantly, he's a SPECIALIST in this area, whereas who knows if your Gyno is? Ultrasound is by no means conclusive as to a diagnosis between BU/SU, and so **why should** you go and have the eventual heartache, if and when you try to conceive, of the possibility of a miscarriage?? **Why should** you have to be on tenterhooks about " will this one work? " each time you fall pregnant? If you are really SU, then the likelihood of miscarriage is actually far greater than the rest of the population. If you are BU, then you have a higher chance of preterm labour, or late miscarriage (others feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken). Go and see Prof, tell him you want to find out for your own piece of mind, what do you really have to lose? Tell him you've talked to me, and that you were referred by me from this list, I've mentioned it to him before, he'd be really excited to hear it, I think! Also, I wouldn't mention that you're not trying to conceive for 12 months... Yes, you could be SU, conceive, and carry babies to term, I have. But I've also had 8 miscarriages, to get my 2 children, 4 before my daughter, 3 before my son, 1 last August. It really burns me up to hear " so-called experts " tell people that they should take their chances and go and make a baby before they will do anything drastic like fix a condition that is easily operable! If Prof goes and just does the laparoscopy, and then finds out you're BU, then there's no harm done, it's a very simple procedure, and you're out of surgery and in recovery within 15 minutes. If he finds you're SU, then he'll go ahead and do a hysteroscopy, and he'll probably look into your fibroids as well (although I have no information about that, I don't know what he'd have to do). I asked him to give my endometriosis a bit of a scrape - I went in on day 3 of my periods and came out with them finished altogether! What a good doctor! > > I am nervous as whether to persist and ask for further examinations > to rule out SU and then if so to request surgery?. Why shouldn't you be able to get it fixed if it needs fixing? It's no skin of Prof 's nose to do a bit of an investigation! > > No plans within the next 12 mths for preg, (although this has > certainly changed alot of priorities in my life !) but if surgery is > an option do you think I should be considering it before ttc ?. YES!! > Very much looking forward to the prof appt, although feeling a little > daunted, so any advise/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Make sure you bring up all your concerns with Prof, he's very cool indeed, and he appreciates women with brains who know what they're talking about. When he asked me why I wanted the surgery, when I have two healthy children, I said, " Because I want to know for sure that what I've been diagnosed with is what I actually have. And, I'm only 33, so I want more children! " . He appreciated my candour, and that's what made him go ahead with the investigation. It helps to have a little bit of a tear in your eye as well, I'm sure... http://www.sold.com.au - SOLD.com.au - Find yourself a bargain! Guest guest
Oooh, Elise, there's nothing chicken about not liking needles or surgery! I don't like needles and so forth either, but I'm good with surgery, I've had to be, with all my m/c! Yes, MRI can be used, but I went the way of lap, because of my m/c history. I think if you can convince Prof to let you have an MRI that would be a good way to go! BTW - I thought your initial appointment with Prof was supposed to be in August? --- Elise wrote: > Thanks , your re-assurance and advise is greatly > appreciated.
