Guest guest
Am I Hungry was my first introduction to Intuitive Eating. If you have read any other books on IE I would say it's pretty basic. I found the Nutrition and Exercise Information redundant from what I already know. What I did like about it is her hunger scale and her tips for dealing with those times when you want to eat but are not hungry. --Alana -------------- Original message -------------- Has anyone read "Thin People Don't Clean Their Plates" by Jill Flemingand "Am I Hungry" by May? These books look really good and Ithink I want to read them, but they aren't available at the library, and I'd like some recommendations before I make a purchase. Thanks in advance.-
Guest guest
While I didn't read the Am I Hungry? book, I did have do a teleclass for Am I Hungry? with our wonderful fearless leader here - Gillian! I felt like Alana did, the nutrition and exercise to be something 'redundant' from what I already knew. I would say that Am I Hungry? is good for those who would be more comfortable with 'hand holding structure' to get going with IE. I had already been 'doing' IE on my own for some time so it wasn't as impacting for me. (Gillian is a gem though - she knows how to 'personalize' the course so one gets what YOU need). > > Has anyone read " Thin People Don't Clean Their Plates " by Jill Fleming > and " Am I Hungry " by May? Guest guest
Thanks for the info, Alana. I don't think I'll get the book if there's nutrition and exercise information...I just don't want to waste my time thinking about that stuff right now - too many other important things to do. How about " The Overfed Head " ? Anyone read that one? I want to get it from my library...it looks good to me. > > > Am I Hungry was my first introduction to Intuitive Eating. Guest guest
I'm not keen on any IE book with nutritional info in it. To me, it's like they spend pages telling us not to diet - then stick diet info at the end. Like even they can't get away from it totally. I'm not crazy about the title 'thin people dont' clean their plates' sounds good - but isnt' really true and as Press has pointed out - that can become an IE rule :) > > Has anyone read " Thin People Don't Clean Their Plates " by Jill Fleming > and " Am I Hungry " by May? Guest guest
I agree! I get " squicked " by the nutritional info in some IE books as well. Yeah, it's just like the belief that thin people don't eat junk food or fast food. Ha! > > I'm not keen on any IE book with nutritional info in it.
