Hi ,

I saw your question and wanted to let you know that I had a c-section with . Unfortunately, he had to go to the NICU so I didn't see him for 8 hours. I breastfeed him then when I saw him. The doctors said the pain killers would not hurt the baby. Still, I took the minimal amount to be sure. It was pretty painful the first couple days getting in and out of bed but after that I was fine. It felt like when I had the ep because I lost a tube and had surgery then.

I forget who asked about loosing weight and breastfeeding but I lost all of my pregnancy weight in the first two weeks after was born (40 pounds)! But I started out the pregnancy about 20 pounds over what I should be so now I am stuck with that still. Breastfeeding is supposed to burn a lot of calories but it does make you more hungry so I think it balances out. I forget who said it (?) that they lost weight when they stopped nursing. That gives me hope with these extra pounds. I want to stop when he is about a year.

Hi ,

No problem with the questions. I don't mind. Let's see. When I got home I didn't need the pain killers anymore but I stayed at the hospital with for 8 days and I used them there. But in my case, was in the NICU and it was all the way on the other side of the hospital wing then were my room was so I had a lot of walking to do (every 3 hrs. I walked down to feed him even in the middle of the night) Needless to say I think that was too much and I needed the painkillers. At home, I pretty much rested. My mom came over every day for the first week to help me bath him and get us downstairs and everything. They would hand him to me in the hospital but at home I lifted him fine and he was a big 9+ pounder. Hey, we live pretty close so if you need me and to come help you ever we would love to!!!!

P.S. I did find that radio station your dh is on. What time is he on? I'll try to listen.

I have had three c-sections and each one was different so it's hard to tell you how you will feel after.

I was worried about taking care of Tessa after this c-section, because the one before was very hard on me. But after the first day I was able to manage to get her out of the bassinet on my own. It's the first 24 hours that is the hardest (for me anyway). With my second c-section Casey went to the NICU, so I didn't have to take care of him (I just sat there beside his incubator). He was too little to breastfeed (I had to pump). But I managed just fine with Tessa. I actually started breastfeeding her in the recovery room.

As for pain killers I had to take them every four hours for about five days. I know I wouldn't have been able to manage without them. From what I understand each c-section is harder because they cut over the same scar tissue, which makes the healing process that much harder and more painful. My dr also told me the medication wouldn't harm the baby, so considering how much pain I was in I took it.

As for help I had my mother here for the first week, which was a huge help. I would strongly suggest you get some back up if you have surgery. Just my two cents - I hope it helps.

Love & hugs,

Hi Dawn,

Thanks for the info! Considering that I lost both tubes during ep surgery, I'm hoping the C-section isn't any worse. I was fine after about 5 days, but the first 3 days I couldn't even sit up by myself! had to push me up from behind my back.

How did you take care of the baby? Did you have someone staying with you at first? I'm thinking I'll probably need some extra help so maybe I'll ask Aunt Rose now, just to make sure she sets aside the time to stay with us.

Were you still taking pain killers after leaving the hospital? Were you able to lift the baby, or did someone have to hand him to you? Sorry for so many questions...

Wow! I'm amazed that you lost all of your pregnancy weight within 2 weeks!

That must be some record or something!

I really didn't do anything to do it. Although as I said I was walking the long halls of the hospital to get to the NICU every three hours for that week. I gained a lot of weight (40 lbs.) so I was glad it came off quick.

Hi Dawn,

So you would suggest having someone here, we have plenty of guest rooms, you and are welcome whenever you like! It would be fun!!!!

I figured the first week would be the worst, were you as sore by the time you got home?

The radio show is on Monday's at 6pm. They really have a great time, you may enjoy it.

Hi Jo-Ann,

Thanks so much for your input! I'm really glad to hear that the pain medication is not harmful to the baby, that was my major concern. I can deal with pain for a little while, but I don't want to harm our child.

I will definitely plan on having someone here with me, even if I'm okay with the baby, I'll need someone to go up and down the steps to let the dogs out, etc.

I am just so excited! I can't wait till I'm full term and have a healthy little baby in my arms!!!!

Sounds like you had a cool ultrasound! Congrats on the boy(you think anyway)! I really wasn't sore at all when I got home but that was after a week in the hospital remember.

Take care,

Dawn,

Do you think all hospitals keep women a week after a C-section, that would be great!

JoAnn/ I also had on a Wednesday (5:37pm) and left on Saturday morning... well, closer to noon but we had to wait for my dr to come in and clear me (I had been running a temp) and 's dr to talk to me about her jaundice and what to do at home. But I was told that pretty much when I woke up I'd be going home that day if the dr found my temp not to be a problem. Amy Re: breastfeeding ( and others)_ , Sounds like you had a cool ultrasound! Hi ,

No, My hospital kicked me out after 3 days after the c-section. was in the NICU for 8 days and the hospital let me stay in an extra room in a deserted wing of the hospital. It would have been so nice if they had let me stay that week in a room where I was being taken care of. As it was, I had to fend for my own food and everything but at least I was able to see whenever and be there to feed him every 3 hours.
