It means you need to slow the lowering down. Go back up 2.5mg for a few

days then try lowering it again. Patience is key to gettign off HC and

listening to your body and paying attention when it complains.

Of course, it figures that after I post, I am feeling better right

now! So maybe I should just give stay at 32.5 for a few days and see

how it goes?

thanks!

Okay, so go up to 32.5 mg or 35 mg?

I was at 37.5 mg when I started weaning, then went right down to 30

which is what I was on Monday through Thursday. Yesterday was pretty

bad, but today, as of right now, I am actually not too bad since the

spell I was having when I posted. Not sure what will happen later on

tonight, though.

Thank you so much for your help,

You might b e going too. I've been off Cortef for about 3-4 weeks now and am

doing well. What I did was I decreased by 2.5 mg per WEEK, and I alternated

which dose I decreased. I also substituted Isocrt for the 2.5 mg. of Cortef.

So for example, it went something like this:

Week 1 decrease from 10 to 7.5 + 1 Isocort, 10 mg. noon

Week 2 7.5+1 am and 7.5 +1 noon

Week 3 5+1 am and 7.5+1 noon

Week 4 5+1 am and 5+1 noon

Week 5 2.5+2 am and 5+1 noon

Week 6 2.5+1 am and 5+1 noon

Week 7 2.5+1 am and 2.5+1 noon

and so on, and so on, and so on

I'm on 1 isocort am and 1 isocort noon right now, and will drop the am isocort

tomorrow. Then next week I'll drop the remaining noon one. BUT, I still have

Isocort and Cortef on hand if I have stress or feel any low adrenal symptoms

coming on.

Worried Weaning Not Going Well

I may have wrote too quickly that I had successfully weaned from

37.5/40 to 30 HC in a matter of days! I experienced a few symptoms

afer a couple of days (anxiety, bit of heart pounding), but nothing I

couldn't get through. However, yesterday I experienced nasuea pretty

badly, but I didn't vomit. I was also very tired. However, my BP was

not dropping when I went from lying to standing (a miracle for me) and

my pulse raises 15 points from lying to standing. My temps are not low

and they are stable.

I was so sick to my stomach that I did take 35 mg, though, and

although I didn't feel 100% normal again, I didn't want to take more

and was able to function and I even slept pretty well last night.

Today, I feel much better and am shooting for 32.5 as I think maybe I

got overzealous and tried to wean by too much all at once. I started

to get really tired and mild nasuea after I was up about 2 and 1/2

hours. The fatigue let up a bit with my 2nd HC dose, but I still have

mild stomach upset. I have not given in and taken extra HC so far.

Again, my BP is not dropping when I go from lying to standing and my

pulse raises also.

I'm thinking I have enough cortisol in my body and I'm just

experiencing withdrawal from being on too high a dose for a while and

I should ride it out. Do you agree or do you think I am weaning too

fast? I know Val says nasuea means you are hurting your adrenals, but

since my BP is not dropping, I was wondering if it's just withdrawal

and not my adrenals being forced to make what they can't. It seems I

have enough cortisol, my body was just used to too high a dose. Am I

wrong? Should I ride this out or wean more slowly?

Thank you in advance,

Kathleen

Hi ,

Thank you for the post. That's great you are off Cortef and still

doing well. Yay!

I am doing okay right now. Since I made it this far and the symptoms

were subsiding, I have decided to stick it out, but I did go up to

32.5 at Val's suggestion. That is still a 7.5 mg drop in a little

over a week. I feel a bit anxious, but that's about it. I am going to

stay where I'm at until ALL the withdrawal symptoms are gone and then

I don't think I'll drop that fast ever again, lol. However, I'm glad

I did because I was on too much for ME and it was making me feel

jacked to where I couldn't take my thyroid meds.

What I've had to do is dose every 2 hours in the daytime. In the

evening I can dose every 3 hours. So I'm really breaking it up, but

it does help alleviate the syptoms quite a bit which would start 2

hours after a dose.

I will keep your weaning protocol in mind for sure when I do my next

weaning! Hopefully, a drop of 2.5 will not affect me. That's all I

did with my first suscessful wean attempt and I had no symptoms of

low cortisol or withdrawal at all.

Thank you!

Oddly, I am starting to wonder if I needed more than 20 mg HC all

along. I am at 32.5 mg and do intend to decrease by 2.5 mg/week after

this, but I am going to keep doing the BP test and temp graphing as I

go along to see if I can find my sweet spot. My BP always dropped on

standing, even on 20 mg and Florinef, but now it doesn't.

Also, when I first went on 20 HC, my free t3 went up all by itself from

220 to 270. Dr. Rind always told me that I wouldn't convert as long as

my adrenals couldn't handle it. This makes me wonder if am converting

better now on the increased HC dose and whether that is why I don't

seem to need much t3 at all right now.

Either that, or I am running on HC (which I WAS doing back on the 40

mg.) I get labs in 2 weeks, so I guess that will shed some light. I am

curious to see, anyway.
